I'll be transferring to a four year college in the spring. I'm so excited1 I'll be continuing to get my bachelor's degree. I'll graduate from my local community college with an associate's degree. I'm excited to get the whole college experience from the four year school I want to attend. When you went to college or university, what did you bring with you to your college dorm?

A tv, a little 9 inch black and white set, a radio, an alarm clock (actually they were the same thing) clothes, towels... it WAS a long time ago...

this was back in the early 1970's... I liked to catch Star Trek in the afternoons coming out of a Dallas station, didn't watch a lot of tv at night, but did watch some I really don't watch much tv now, not much worth watching!

Hmm. I didn't think about a television. I don't watch that much television to begin with, but maybe that's a good idea. Maybe I'll bring my stereo too. It's a radio, CD player and alarm clock in one. But it's not exactly small.

I don't really watch television either. Unless it's on already and I happen to walk by and am very bored. I mean, there are a few shows I like, but I couldn't watch them every week religiously or anything.

I have bachelor's degree honours 2/2 in law. It took 5 years and I did in part time while I was working so I never stay in the university.

Oh. How come you didn't stay at the university? But congratulations on your degree!

I was working running a commercial laundry. I did that all day and attended classes in the evening. Was already married and had 4 children. It was hard work

I tok bed sheets and clothes of course. I also took things that reminded me of home like some pictures and books. A lamp, my laptop, a rug to make the roomy homier. um a bunch of random little things that I dont remember now aside from the basic necessities.

Oh yes. Almost forgot about a rug. That would probably be a very good investment! Thanks for the suggestions!

What you need in the dorm really depends on the school's rules as well as the region in which you are attending college. My first semester, I wasn't as well-equipped as I was in later semesters. Bedding (the extra long sheets may or may not be needed; at my school, I didn't need them), basic utensils and cookware, clothing that covers the range of needs (keep in mind things such as whether you will go to religious services, career events at the college, are in an area with wildly varying temps, etc.)... Don't immediately bring a bunch of expensive or sentimental items with you until you are familiar with what your roommate(s) and hallmates are like; things do "grow legs," and not all roommates are good about locking doors--or recognizing that what is yours is not necessarily fair game.

I like your suggestions! I'm hoping that my roommates are up to par!

That was a long time ago! But I do remember bringing with me a sandwich maker. And I remember it being a hit with the guys on my floor. We would always be making sandwiches with it, specially if we didn't like the food being served at the dorm cafeteria.

Yes it was! Sometimes we would even cook something that it is not supposed to be cooked in there! Thanks you George Foreman!

Congrats to you Steph! Being that I attended college when I had my two kids I did not go away. I did however, send both of mine to stay at their dorms. Basically all the essentials but minimally as your space will be quite small. Good luck to you and hope all goes really well for you.
