Just some days ago i was watching bbc entertainment channel and it was showing a program , i dont remember its name but it was about how people still follow the ways that wise people advised long ago and its works so well amazingly.I was quite amazed by this particular episode in which they showed about living bridges of meghalaya ( i am bit embarrassed too as being indian i didn't already knew about it).Meghalaya is considered to be the wettest state here especially the city cherrapunji in it is considered as the wettest place of the world. The War tribe of meghalaya-Khasis, long ago noticed a tree and saw its powerful roots as an opportunity to easily cross the area's many rivers.what they used to do is - over a river-the Khasis use betel nut trunks, sliced down the middle and hollowed out, to create root-guidance systems. The thin, tender roots of the rubber tree, prevented from fanning out by the betel nut trunks, grow straight out. When they reach the other side of the river, they're allowed to take root in the soil. It took lots of patience and 10-15 years work but it was worth it.And up to 50 people can cross the bridges at once, and many bridges are over 100 feet long. And they only become stronger with time, as the roots continue to grow. Some of the bridges in the region are estimated to be 500 years old. It shows that there are ways to do things naturally aswell , humans can live in harmony with nature if he choose too
