Should facebook be allowed in schools.

This year for the first time, the local school unblocked facebook from the school's internet. This has allowed many kids to post and chat during class. Many of them are having a hard time keeping focused. I was wondering if any other schools allowed facebook and how others feel on that decision.

It should be blocked! Facebook-ing while in studying, while in learning environment, would be really counterproductive
Here in my college, Facebook are being blocked on 8 AM - 4 PM. Other than that, we can freely access Facebook. But on 8 AM - 4 PM, we should [i][get focused/i] in study

I think Facebook should not be allowed in school. They can just use Facebook probably after school time in their homes. I think the school should limit the sites that students can access. Students should focus on their studies first before Facebook.

...And let the serious bullying begin! Nothing like having all day to rip to shreds the mental acuities of those people you don't like or want to destroy! What kind of idiotic idea was it to let the kids play stupid computer games instead of actually learning something? I'd seriously look into what morons are running your schools.

I a parent who would like the schools to let the freedom of communication. Let the children bring handphone to school it is a necessity now since both parents are working. Why denying the communication facilities, let the facebook be free to be use, they can communicate across the world rather than us who the further radius of communicating is the TV.

The school is not like any colleges and the student in school are of small ages. Hence, they are assumed to be learning and instructed by the teachers only. They dont know what is the write and wrong.Incase of facebook this is out of mental capacity of childs. so its better not to allowed in school and not alloweded..

No, this is the worst idea i have come across today. If the school, let kids access to Facebook during class. They are not going to learn anything,i can grantee that.
These kids will be having a hard time focusing, and learning because everybody will be on Facebook chatting.
If Facebook is going to available during class might as well they stay home an don't waste their parents money.
No school should allow Facebook during class,This is a no no totally rubbish. No kids will learn.

No, they should not be. Because, like you said, they'll just fool around with it in class and not focus on any of their work. They're gonna blow off home work when they get home anyway. So they should at least have some place where they are actually doing anything productive.

I am a college student in an university but the school does not allowed us to open facebook, twitter, friendster, and they even blocked the videos like youtube. I don't feel our money that i paid are worthy. And some of the websites that i am using when they saw it they will block it if it involves social networking or online chatting. Good thing they didn't block MyLot.
But in some universities in our place, these websites are available and can be access through school computer labs.

I believe if they blocked facebook from the schools you'd have some students would eventually find a way to get in to unblock facebook such as proxy sites. In high school they blocked myspace in the school library so we used proxy sites to get in. Facebook is not to blame I think it's the students who should stop going on facebook and start focusing on their class.

I agree with inter-scholar social networks (actually this is what Facebook was at the beginning). The children can meet other children from other schools or countries, they can learn foreign languages directly from the people that live in that country. So yes, I would like Facebook to be implemented in schools and to be a little more educative and a little less filled with mindless morons. :)
