Well for me there have been a lot of things over the yrs. that has helped lead to some of my depression. Some of it is hereditary and stemming from other Health issues as well. But I have learned over the yrs. and thru Counseling that personally you are in control of how you act with it.
Some people will need medications while others may not. The main thing is to stay motivated and not let it get you down too bad. You will have your Bad days and that is Ok. Just pick yourself up and remember this too shall pass.

I remind myself that the feelings of sadness are not real. they are being falsely created by a chemical inbalance in my brain, because of my illness.
because that is what depression is, it's not sadness, it's a part of the body not working right, and making you feel sadness even when there is no cause.
and although it doesn't make it go away, understanding that it's not a real emotion, but one that has been artificially created with chemicals helps me to cope with the fact that I feel so sad.

I am depressed every single day and I struggle with it very much. I am in chronic pain and that makes my depression very much worse. So I can't be much help because I also am struggling.
