I was planing for a long time now to have a small veg garden at home. But I had no time and 2 weeks before i started with the small open beds and injected seeds like parsley, tomato, green chillies and ground nuts. For a week now, there was no signs of any growth and this week, it was drizzling here and to my surprise, the beds were full of saplings, little plants..so lovely to see and wish these grow happily without harmful fertilizers. Normal cowdungs and natural soil is best to grow vegetables fresh. Any one has started this type of vegetation and any tips. Cheers!

Keep them well fed, don't over water and make sure you have them spaced appropriately for maximum growth potential. Let the weak plants go by the wayside and keep the strong ones. Watch for bugs and marigolds are good to grow around a garden that will keep bugs out.

No, I haven't had a garden in years. Where I live now we are not allowed to plant anything. We do have a few plants on the patio. You might try looking for some vegetable type bug powderand put some in the row as you plant. Should help with the bugs.

I tried to find a site that can help, but wow, there are none or I am putting the wrong words in the search bar.. Here is what I do. I compost, so I use that as my fertilizer. I keep my plants weed free by pulling out the weeds when they are small. Using mulch also keeps the weeds down and whether you mulch or not, try not to step much in the garden, that packs down the soil which isn't good. As for pest control, it really depends on the pest and you can probably refine your search if you have a particular problem. But over all, the best defense against pests is to allow spiders, lady bugs, and toads to make their home in your garden. Of course make sure your plants have plenty or water and sunshine and you should have a nice, chemical free, harvest..:)

You added real important points. Weeds are really problematic, they grows of very fast and so am careful this time to pull them on a daily care. Stepping on the garden often...valuable point i should remind in mind. Pest control spiders and bugs are there 1 or 2 and will allow them to get a control. Chemical free is really best to ensure better vegies..Thanks carmelanirel, i have noted ur points, very useful ones.

So nice to hear.. corn and tomatoes are most needed one. How long does tomatoes take time to grow and have fruits. Nice to hear that you use natural manures. Great!

I start my seeds in March and then transplant them to our garden in May. This year, we had so much rain that it killed most of our plants. :( We do have corn, watermelon, pumpkin, carrots, tomato, broccoli and peppers growing though. We usually have cucumber and I make pickles but the rain washed those out. With the tomatoes I make spaghetti sauce. I love having a vegetable garden, it is so nice to just walk outside and pick whatever you need and not have to drive to the store and worry about where it was grown and whether or not you'll get salmonella from it! And like you mentioned, NO chemicals, that is the best part!

Oh thats sad to here. Yes rain is both a supporter and killer to the plants. That also bothers me a little. Its interesting to know that you have variety of veggies on your garden and you know the seasons for seedling as well. You added my thoughts, i really love to pick from our own garden rather than from stores. I like to make it natural without harmful chemicals.

Sounds like you are well on your way to having a successful garden! Good for you. I do not like to garden. When I was a child we lived on a farm and I had so much work to do that I wore thin about raising veggies etc. I prefer to buy them. Also I am alone too so too much of it would go to waste!

Yes jillhill, it will not be fun to grow alone. Even i take support of the family and my kids as well, who help me around. Nice to hear you had a farm raising vegetables. I have started try..let me see how its booming up!

Hi besthope! I use to own a really nice home with a really big garden. I was so new to the gardening world and learned so much with trial and error. I am a very picky eater but found a lot of joy watching my veggies growing. I use to give them all away and lots of friends and neighbors were always happy to receive them. lol. I grew cabbage, lettuce, broccoli, peppers, jalapeno peppers and cucumbers. I use to enjoy growing so many veggies, just so I can see them mature. I miss that as now I live in an apartment building with no place to grow anything. Enjoy your gardening and you will continually learn by trial and error also. Each year you will remember what went wrong and how to improve it.

Hi HWG!! Love to know about the garden you had. Yes it gives a joy to see them growing so well. You added it well, trial and error helps to develop our own experience to grow the varieties of veggies. I will apply that logic and you are right, i can be cautious of my mistakes and help them grow well. Cheers!!!
