How often do you update your status?

With websites like Facebook and Twitter, it really only takes a click of a button to tell everyone how you're feeling, what you're doing, where you are, etc.
I've always found it unnecessary to share updates with my peers, especially if it's really constant. Maybe, once in a while, I will update my status and tell my friends about something important. But most of the time, I remain away from clicking that update button! And now, with the "check-in" thing on Facebook, people can know exactly where you are at a given time!
This is true for Twitter too. People constantly update Twitter, telling people where they are, what they are doing. I understand that this is the point of the website, but updating every few minutes sometimes makes me wonder how important a matter is to someone. For me, I just use Twitter to keep track of information and news here and there.
So what about you? How often do you update your status?

I never update my status. My status has been the same since the I day signed up. I'm like that on every site I join. I think it is because I'm lazy. I didn't think people actually read profiles either. Oh well! Maybe I will have to update my status after all.

I don't think its necessary laziness. Maybe there's just nothing good to say, or it's not important for other people to really know. Sometimes, if I'm utterly bored and there's nothing to do, I might go around and browse a few profiles. It really doesn't hurt whether or not we update or statuses!

I find myself starting to ignore facebook too. I rarely ever go on it, and only go on it in order to contact and message my friends about important matters. I just started mylot recently, and I really enjoy it! It's nice to see peoples opinions on various topics and their different perspectives!
Thank you for your response (:

I only have an account with Facebook and I don't really update my status everyday. I only update it when I feel like doing it and I avoid doing it whenever I feel upset since everyone in my friend's list will be able to read it. I only update my status with inspirational or motivating messages. For me, to read something inspiring is better than letting your friends know what you are doing every minute...

Me?? I just sometimes update my status on any social network sites. I usually use social sites, just like you, to track some information or someone. But when i do update my status on any social network sites usually i just say something about my whims on life. blah blah blah. That is what i usually do. Hehehe

Isn't it so much easier to track information with the new social networking sites? It simply takes a few seconds of your time to update your status about something important that is occurring, or seeing what your favorite celebrity or something is up to. You can also receive a lot of news right when it occurs, instead of waiting for something to be officially published.
Thanks for your response!

With Facebook, everyone uses it differently, to their own styles and tastes. For me, I just use it to keep in contact with my friends. If nothing significant is occurring, I try my best to stay away from the website. Sometimes it reveals things you don't want to know, or just wastes your time.

Yeah, maybe sometimes people just want others to know what they're up to. I understand if it's a big event during the day, like a concert or something, but not much can happen if you are staying at home in front of the computer!
I also rarely get the need to post something, unless something significant is happening, and I need people to know about it right away. Which is a very rare case for me!

Like most things, Twitter can be overused. One would be an idiot if they updated every 3 minutes.
As for me, I keep my tweets to the point and I don't update every few minutes. I keep my tweets about a few hours apart or 30 minutest at the most.
I update my status or post a tweet when I have something to say that's substantial and/or funny. I also take my time in posting because I want everyone to see what I put up there. Taking my time, if you will, because I don't want to be saying things that might regret AND, I carefully craft what I have to say. :)

I agree with you! I always wonder what the people that update every few minutes are doing that's so interesting. It's like, it's a necessity for them to constantly post useless sentences!
And a good idea about taking your time to craft responses. Some people really don't filter what they are about to post, and end up insulting someone or embarrassing themselves. It's hard to make things on the internet disappear sometimes!
