Does anyone else do home canning anymore? I have found it hard to find anyone who does this and have often had people ask me why i do it. Home canning takes a lot of time but saves a lot of money in the long run. So why not? The food tastes better then the stores canned food and you can grow everything you need in your back yard! Plus you get the satisfaction is saying, "Hey i did this"! A person can can anything from fruit to vegies, to making your own jams and jellies! To me it is worth the time and effort it takes to can my own food!

From time to time I think about canning but that is as far as I get. I don't know how and was always afraid the food would spoil or I'd poison someone. LOL obviously I don't know how to can anything.. I like the idea of healthy foods w/o the additives

we freeze stuff in my home, and my auntie makes fig jams and jellies. They are still good after a few years. Peaches still stay fresh even after 2 years of canning. :) Muscadines are all over the ground at home but they are really nasty, but older people like them.
