My renter got herself a kitten and the darn thing wants to go downstairs all the time. And go around the Tv where all the cords are. I am waiting until she is old enough to catch mice, but not being a cat person, more of a dog person, I have no idea when she can go outside. WE have a very noisy dog ouside and he is neglected, and stays out all night so sort of worried about that. So when is it all right for a kitten to go outside?

ooohh, i never let my cats outside when i had them and always kept them away from wires etc. as much as possible. you want the kitty inside to keep mice away from your inside house anyway. and dont listen to people that tell you let it go hungry to catch mice. thats not true. ive had many many cats and very well fed ones will catch them even at a few months old. you just have to wait and see. some cats never catch them. some are great and catch and kill rats big as them. lol

I think this kitten is going to be a great mouser. She is already trying to attack me.

I was thinking the same thing, but was wondering at what age the cat can go out. WE do not want just a house cat. We have trouble with rabbits and skunks as well as mice might coming in during the winter. I do not think it is right to think that I would actually put the kitten out right now when she is only a few weeks old. I am more used to dogs and I can sort of translate dog years to human years, but do not know what cat years are in human years so cannot use that basis.

That is what my renter does, but taking it to the car is not the same as putting it on the porch and hoping it does not run off. The kitty has a habit of getting into things and under things. Guess we will wait until she is at least a couple of months old old.

I just got a 3 month old kitten last week and there is no way I would let my cat go outside there are too many dangers. My cats have all been indoor cats and as they are pets do not have to work outside. My cats have caught any mice which have come into my home and that is all I need just to keep my home free from vermin not the whole neighborhood.

Out neighbourhood is pretty safe, but there are not that many cats around, and one more cat would help when she is old enough. I want her to just look after the yard and not go anywhere else. Of course if it were a male, then I would be more worried.

I think if the cat is old enough she can go outside. And maybe have a little background check with that dog. If that dog are wild and hate cats you should not let your cat out. But maybe he is just really noisy but can get along with cats well. If your neighbor have a cat as well maybe your cat will be fine.

The dog is just neglected. The children next door tease him a lot. WE did take the kitten outside while taking down the back screen door, but all she wanted to do was to go down stasis and she is not allowed to. There is a wild cat in the neighbourhood It used to belong to the people who rented the house next door the one that the people wilt the dog bought, but they left the cat behind.

Is the dog on your property? If so, you can go out and make friends, give it a biscuit or a treat each day and bring a little happiness to its life. Either way, it's not safe for the kitten to go outside.
I know such a dog here and there's nothing I can do as long as they feed and water it. Poor big Rottweiler in a space about 8x10, never let out. It barks and cries all the time and is paid no attention except once a day at feeding time. I used to wave at him and speak to him across the street but then they put up a board fence and he doesn't even have the comfort of kind words now. I hope that those people are rewarded in kind for their cruelty. The local humane society says they are breaking no law but they are in violation of decency nonetheless.

It belongs to the neighbour, but the neighbour has small children who sometimes forget to close the gate. And both of them work, so the dog is left alone. I do not want to go into the neighbour's yard. We will have to keep the kitten in the house until she is able to defend herself.f.

Sounds cute and you are a generous landlord to allow pets, especially since your dog is outside. Of course the mice catching will be useful :)
I would try to get the kitten and dog together now for short periods and get used to each other. They could be real buddues...

It is not my dog. It is the neighbours and they keep it out at night and do not contact with it as much. And of course the children forget to close the gate so sometimes it gets out. One time it wound up on my step when the mailman was around and he assumed it was my dog. I told him it belonged next door and he put it in. WE do have problems with rabbits and skinks and heard the cats go after them. I just do not want the kitten to run off. Right now she is too small and she is not even used to the whole house yet.

She is really too young now to be let outside. I think we will have to let her outside gradually. She is that stage now where she gets into everything like going behind the Tv, running downstairs when you are not looking, hiding under the bed and the easy chair. So I would not trust her outside just this soon.

I have to be perfectly honest here even without having any idea what it's like around your home; in my opinion it's NEVER alright for a kitten or a cat to go outside. There are too many dangers out there...the risk of getting hit by a car, attacked by other animals and the danger of getting infected with a terrible feline disease such as Feline AIDS or feline leukemia. As far as her going around the TV, I wouldn't worry too much about her bothering the wires. I have 5 indoor cats and they never bother anything like that.

We have a lot of trouble with skinks and rabbits astound here. Even though we are in the city, the animals have not caught on. In fact, we even have foxes come in at night, deer near the railway, and some weird animal that looks like a large otter and what I think is the result of a mad scientific experiment. Oh yes the mice. I cannot see buying rat poison and having a child get into it. Would rather the cat go after them when she is old enough. I just want to know when. We do have two cats in the neighbourhood who go out at night and return to their owners in the morning and one wild cat. But most everyone around here are dog people.
