That's the name of the protagonist is Mel Gibson's Apocalypto. I bought the disc because I thought that it was a Mel Gibson starrer and I had missed it in the cinemas. And the saleslady said it was a big hit last year. But I was surprised, because I was viewing a story of a forgone tribe in a faraway jungle, a forest primeval, a time and a place where boar hunting was the measure of fun and life itself. There is more to the story than the boar, actually it is the gripping moment in the life of Jaguar Paw, the man who ran with the Jaguar. This movie is only for those with strong stomachs....

I was a little bored with the film it was well put together by Mel Gibson but the story wasn't as impressive or interesting to me I have no problem with viewing Gorey films since I'm a horror and sci-fi fan so watching the film was not a issue I just got bored about in hour into the film and changed the channel yeah I watched on cable uncut I guess you could say I didn't see what the big deal was about that movie.

It was a poignant movie about a lost tribe and a young man who, in his time, tried his best to preserve it. If you stayed till the end, the movie implied that change was inevitable...

i have watched the movie long time ago. and i am sure it was not just last year that it was released or featured in cinemas. actually, about two years ago when i saw the cd which was dubbed in visayan language and it turned the serious movie hilarious.

it was not actually a translation to visayan language but dubbing to make the movie funny. the script is far from original story and it was really hilarious.

The translation made the movie appear comic? Well, that must be studied. Translation is very important. Perhaps the translator was not as serious as he should be.

I liked this movie though some people around me say it was too ordinary. Can't say e3xactly what did I like, maybe the baby jaguar ;) Or many other things.... Was it about survival? Watched it a long time ago, so don't remember anything gruesome or too violent. Again some people around me say.... LOL

In a way it was about survival, because the main purposed of hunting is to preserve life. But the movie proceeded to relate in a few more things, like culture, tribalism, barbarism, change, and the human spirit.

Now survival was not the word I meant to convey, it was more about human spirit really! As for the violent scenes, maybe I didn't like them subconsciously that's why all I can remember is the part before they were captured and protagonists escape onwards. And of course the baby jaguar Didn't know it was Mel Gibson' s movie. Never look at these infos. :)

Watched this movie sometime back and yeah I would agree it was interesting but yet story was not something new. We have seen same tale of courage, bravery and survival against all odds many times before. What makes this movie worth-watching is Mel Gibson style of raw violence which makes you actually feel the pain yourself (like in Passion of Christ) and secondly the lead actor, who had good acting skills and looks!

Yes, there are many tales of courage, but rarely do they make pics about brown people. I have in mind Amistaad, but that is about the black people and their journey from their beloved Africa to the modern world. Jaguar Paw though, as I see it, is the triumph of the human person caught in a web of adversity.

I have watched this movie and i think i have strong stomach , just kidding. There is nothing that disturbed me except the human sacrifices and the health of people working on those white powder kind of chemical all their life.I love the jaguar and hope to see it once as mostly even on tv the other animals of cat family is shown , rarely one gets to see a jaguar.movie was ok not something i would like to see again as i kinda got bored. One scene was quite funny when a guy from their tribe follow the lead guy father's suggestion and rub red chili in his privates and his wife and he comes screaming from their hut.

That scene was one funny moment, and probably put there to signify what was to be lost, ravished, destroyed... The human sacrifice was disturbing, and so is the wiping out of tribes just to get warriors for sacrifice....

It was quite an awesome movie. It tells us how tribes fight for survival and how strong their beliefs really are. :)

Actually, when the movie started with the boar hunting, I was amused by the movement and the agility. That hooked me and made me watch the entire story.

I didn't wait for the credits but most likely, Gibson directed. There were scenes that are pretty much the same in Braveheart and The Passion.
