What kind of marketable job skills do you have?

I was applying for jobs online the other day and it got me thinking that I really don't have any skills. I was telling a current co-worker this and she laughed like I was an idiot and was like, "Hello...Customer service?!". Not sure that counts as a skill, but as an applicant, I realized I don't seem to have much to offer as a new employee to a big company. I don't have much grounds to even apply, really. What kind of job "skills" do you have? How did you acquire them? Or do you feel the same way as I do, like you have no leg to stand on in the job market?

It's true that most people don't have any skills that can be used online. It's like trying to get your car repaired online, or replacing a lightbulb online! It just can't happen! It wont EVER happen, yet we see people daily on mylot who seriously believe that they, and the whole world, can work online and earn a living. Sometimes you just have to switch off the computer and get back to reality.

Like you, I don't have any marketable skills either. At least you got customer service. I don't even have that! LOL But I won't let that stop me from applying. I've got to get a full-time job, after all! Happy mylotting!

On a personal level we all have skills that can be put forth for employment, but we don't stop to categorize them in the job market. I can do MANY things, but an employer is not going to take that into consideration, because I have no background foundation to rely on. I feel like you, that I have no marketable skills. I also have a chronic pain condition that holds me down. I can't find a job that I can handle full time and I can't get any help. I am at a point, that I don't know where to turn.

When you really get down to it, I also personally think that I don't have any marketable job skills. But I was lucky enough to get into a training 3 years ago that was paid for by my previous employer. And with the certificate I got from that training, coupled with a lot of BS on my part, I was able to parlay that into the job I have now. The hardest part is to keep the BS going!

Marketable skills would be leadership skills, supervisory skills and people or communication skills. These skills are quite handy in any industry you are in. Some popular skill would be computer skills like using Microsoft office tools, programming (you have to mention what kind of programming language you are proficient), equipment skills and machine operation (like using laboratory equipment) and even driving skills(if you are a licensed driver). Basically, I acquired these set of skills from experience from college, community and previous jobs. You know you have marketable skills, you just have to identify them. And to do that you have to know yourself.
