I just finished reading "Cruel and Unusual" by her and I thought I would start a discussion for fans or people who don't like her much. What's your general opinion of her and/or this book in particular?
I liked it, although it did give me nightmares one night just from the horrific imagery! My only complaint was that it took a while to get into it, I felt lost a few times, and I felt as though a lot of the action HAPPENED but the main characters weren't really involved until it got over and done with. But I like the main characters and how much depth there is to them. She seems like a pretty good writer.

i have read almost all of cornwell's books and enjoy them, in fact i'm now reading port mortuary. the scarpetta novels are very good. i suggest you read them in order. while it isn't necessary, the character development and interactions can more easily be followed.
i also suggest using paperbackswap.com to drastically reduce the cost of purchasing books. it's a really good system, especially if you read a lot, and libraries aren't convenient.
