It still hurts!

I got a 4th piercing on one ear and a 3rd piercing on the other ear about 5 months ago. They have never really stopped hurting. Today, the side with 4 really hurts alot. It is hot to touch and feels swollen. I took the earring out to clean it and it started bleeding. After I finally got the earring back in, it throbbed for about 45 minutes. The other side just aches when I touch it or lay on that side or if my hair wraps around it. How long should I give them to heal properly before I decide enough is enough and just take these two earrings out? I like having an "extra" on the one side for single earrings that have lost their mates. I am seriously considering removing the 4th earring tonight because it just aches and I want to get some sleep and not wake up if I roll over on it. Ideas or advice?

since these piercings are in cartilage, its going to take a LONG time to heal. Nino scratched my ear and got the cartilage, it was nearly a year before it stopped hurting and it wasn't pierced clear through. I talked to my doc when it was still hurting after 6 months and he said that it's because of going through the semi-bone. but it also sounds like it might be infected.... Now, I got my ears normally pierced once about 13 years ago and I got tired of all the trouble I've had so I just quit wearing earrings, I would've liked to wear them, but every thing I put in there caused problems...

It doesn't help that I sleep on the side with 4 and that is the most painful side.

for the while after the piercing, I had to prop my head so the ear didn't touch

I think you have waited long enough for them to heal and the pain and swelling to go away. I would take them out. No piercing is worth all of that!

I think one or two earrings are sufficient not needed anymore. after serious thought to remove the earring that you just go out there where you put it to remove it for you there. Do not attempt because it will be even more painful. Go to the specialist to tell you what to anoint then scraped his ear. nice day!

Hello Trace86, The pain will be worth it don't worry, If I were you I'd leave all the earrings in, taking out the earring might make the whole smaller or tighter the earring is suppose to keep it from closing since you just got your ears pierced.

I had the nurse practitioner at work look at it. She said she didn't think it was infected. I have been trying really hard to suds up my ears when I wash my hair and rinse well. I wonder if the detangler I have to use for my obstinate hair is irritating the earring.
