Do your kids get a snack after school?
My kids don't. I usually try to have dinner done or nearly done by the time they get off the bus. If they have a snack no matter what kind, they will hardly touch their dinner. So I figure if I'm making a nice meal they very well better eat it and not fill up on crackers or something else.

Hi, 3SnuggleBunnies. Yes, I give my kids healthy snacks after school. I usually may fix them a sandwich of some kind, then they will have a snack along with it. My kids seem to be so hungry when they come from school, so I try to keep snacks on hand for them to eat. A couple of hours later, they usually will have dinner.

I think that is wise. It is good for children to have a good dinner rather than to be getting very little nutrients from snacks.I think it is good to have dinner ready for them when they arrive from school. Breakfast, then a lunch snack and then dinner seems like a good set up to me.

Yes they have some fruit or a cookie, and a drink. they finish school at 3.10pm we walk home and get in at 3.20 (if they are on time and dont play with friends along the way) the earliest we eat dinner is 5pm school is a long day and they get a snack mid afternoon when not at school so i see this as no different

My daughter gets out about 2:30 - and yes she does get snacks. My hubby doesn't get home til late, and we think eating together as a family is very important . . . so that's a long time to wait with no snacks before dinner. I try to give her healthy choices whenever possible and I try not to give her any snacks after about 5pm so even if she does fill up on snacks, she'd at least have room for dinner by the time I do get it on the table. Wow - when do your kids get off the bus?

Yes when mine were younger being that I was working. I always provided snacks for them for after school. I was not able to cook dinner anytime prior to 6pm and being that they ate lunch at 11:30am the poor things would have been too hungry. I am glad you are able to have dinner for them earlier.

I really envy you can cook for the children so early and regularly everyday, children eat snacks is a bad habit unsanitary, parents should pay attention to it,we should have the regular diet of three meals a day regularly quantitative eat ,but some families not eating rules and at dinner time sooner or later,so children feel hungry then eat biscuits, cakes and snacks such, actually this is a very troublesome problem for me.

Some days my son has a snack after school, but not always. He gets home from school a few hours before dinner time most nights, so he is usually really hungry by dinner time if he does not have a snack. He normally has something smaller after school though just to make sure he does not fill up and is not hungry for dinner.

My kids got an after school snack, as they got home around 4PM and dinner wasn't until their dad got home between 6-7PM. They'd eaten at noon and were really hungry when they got home! I'd give them some nuts, yogurt, maybe a couple of cookies I'd baked and some milk. Sometimes they had a cut-up apple or a banana or an orange. Their appetites were unaffected, they seemed to have hollow legs! Oh, I loved those days of watching my kids grow up and I really miss being there when they got off the bus and came and hugged me.

We also eat dinner early. Even if I'm not working we eat around 4 or 5, and if I am working I have dinner ready just before I leave. So they do not get after school snacks. I can't afford it, LOL.

Usually they have their snacks first before we dine or have our supper since they comes home early around 5 in the afternoon and dinner usually is served by 8 in the evening.
But, if they came home late around 6pm, I asks them to wait for few minutes then they can have an early dinner.
And they can also do their school works and retire to bed early.
have a good day

Usually , they had their school snacks at 3pm. So when they come home, they are surely hungry by then. It's best that supper should be ready by then, so they can rest a while and do their studies.
