If being "search engine friendly" means being on top of the search engine results page (SERP), the length of the domain name is not much of a factor. In fact, it could be a disadvantage if you are using a common word (or even word combination) in the URL. A made-up or fabricated word may be better because its uniqueness guarantees that your site is the only one in the results page. This is why misspelling a word is such a popular technique (e.g., Flickr.com).
Anyway, the search engine sees a lot more than length of the URL so without additional parameters, the issue can't be settled categorically.

But if we put the most popular key word in the domain name...that I think will be search engine friendly and will go to the top result in search without having a good content..

The doamin name should be search engine friendly. It doesn't matter the length of the domain. It should contain the keywords that will make all the matter.
the domain name makemoneyonline.blogdpot.com will not be preferred by search engine much.
TYhis domain make-money-online.blogspot.com works well.
Hope u got it
Thanx..

makemoneyonline.blogdpot.com
make-money-online.blogspot.com
BOTH are not domain names.
Are SUBDOMAINS. The domain name is
blogspot.com
Period.
Those 2 above work "like a charm" because of HUGE traffic the domain have - because have tons of hits from thousand of subdomains ..
Do this: buy a domain (domain.info) and hosting, build some blogs under certain subdomains (blog-one.domain.info; anotherblog.domain.info etc.) and give them free to some friends to work there hard to get visitors ... your domain.info will raise in rank and value WITHOUT need to have more than on index page ...

Then your address will be your domain name and blogspot domain name's rank would have no effect.
Which I recommend - there are things far more important in IM and of those I would quote credibility; you can not be credible that you have real good solid info and tips while you "sit" on a free host.
Once you have a domain name, sure, there are ways to be checked where is your site hosted and to find out is hosted on free blogspot. But is not so important - few ppl check that and you have a "face", is YOUR domain (obviously paid), so nobody will challenge you.
Anyway, later, if you'll keep struggling into IM, you'll find out you need a hosting and you'll need to outsource 90+ % of what you do.

@seobuzz
I thing you got it wrong ...my discussion was about search engine friendly domain name...and I thing you are confused with domain name and a url...though domain name is also an url but all the url are not domain name...
here is a example for you friend.....
http://www.mylot.com/nr/newcomment.aspx?aid=15202144&qid=2569099&p=1
http://www.mylot.com
both of these are url but the second one is a domain name..
and I want to make the bold section of those two url search engine friendly...so what you thing is required for me..a shorter one or a little lengthy..?

definately short, you need something easy for people to remember. You don't want people forgetting. If your domain name it too long already, abbreviate it.

Have you gone through the discussion thoroughly? I have asked for Search engine friendly domain name not for a user friendly name..I am not going to make a social networking site so that each user has to remember and come back again...I am going to make a site..where I can have a lot of visitor from the search engine...so suggest me on the basis of a search engine...

Short domain name with a unique name. Otherwise Long domain name is better for the search engine to find you.
