Just felt an earthquake

I was in bed and all of a sudden I wake up to the bed shaking. I thought I was hallucinating because I just woke up but I heard the mirror shaking as well!! Soon I heard cars honking and cars never honk here so I got scared. 10 mins later my boyfriend calls me and said 'I might not make it back to see you, there's an earthquake!' and I started crying because I started to panic. But we are okay now, turns out it was a 5.9 magnitude earthquake from Virginia and we felt it here! I've never experienced an earthquake before, so I was very frightened. Anybody else in the states felt it? Or experienced something similar before?
