I had watched an episode about russian people studying our culture and traditions. I really got hooked and amaze that this russian people also included Filipino language in there curriculum at moscow university. They sing tagalog songs and really like to be Filipino. When ask why they really like to study our language they are answer was Philippines are rich in culture and traditions with beautiful places and people they really love our country. This is just an eye opener for us that we have many things to be proud of in our country that we haven't seen yet but others see nationality see that already. Because most Filipinos like to imitate other countries culture or want to live to other country. Are you proud to be a Filipino?

Hello xcyper, It's sad to know that we focused too much on english, i have watched that show in youtube. I think United States has some subjects about it, but i don't know if they practice the speaking of tagalog, unlike that one in Russia's University. i believe if they have the funds they will have this kind of curriculum, and since russians have fond of learning our language. well, am happy and has accepted being a Filipino

Yes I agree that we too focused on english in our country its just a reality check that there is a superiority when you know how to speak english. Also maybe because this is where most people earn money nowadays because of the Outsourcing or call center industry. Maybe those people who are in this industry would not forget their roots that they should be proud on our own language. Because others our trying hard to learn our language

Filipino Fok Dance - Proudly Pinoy
Yes I am, I am proud to be a Filipino. God made me a Filipino so I think whatever God gave me, He knows this is good for me so I should be proud about being a Filipino. I am proud about our culture. We have traditions we can truly be proud about and we should keep maintaining. We should love our language, we should love the olden customs and traditions which which are legacies from our forefathers like the folk songs, the folk dances, using po and opo, kissing the hands of the oldies, and many more. We have values worth sharing to other people in the world. I don't think I should exchange my being a Filipino to other culture. I am loyal to my culture just as I am loyal to my God.

Yes, but there were instances that I tend to forget that I'm a Filipino, because I'm to fond with the idea that I'm being influenced by the Western countries. I haven't heard about the Russian people's fascination to our cultures, traditions, and languages, but I'm happy about it. It's a great news.

honestly sad to say no im not proud. i think our culture is stolen and we do have our good traits but too many bad traits to make us just who we are. i just wish we mature in our culture and be more disciplined.

I am even prouder now that you have informed us about that. It warms the heart that those Russians include the Filipino language in their curriculum at Moscow University. And they can sing Tagalog songs and like to be a filipino. Well, Filipinos go to other countries, just to earn more. But i think, they are so proud too to be a Filipino.

Filipinos have many good attributes and places that we can be proud of but we cannot avoid other nations that discriminating filipinos. Yes, I' am proud to be a filipino. I just hope that our government will eradicate corruption or at least decrease it and be a successful nation someday that we don't need to go to other countries in order to have a job and support our families.

I also saw one like this, like an indie documentary show here in the Philippines and one of the foreigner he was interviewing spoke Tagalog fluently and was currently applying for a Filipino citizenship. COOL! I'm very proud to be a Filipino. Some claim to forget how to Speak in Tagalog...I never did. I learned additional languages but NEVER forgot how to speak in Tagalog..not even the dialect we use at home. You know what I miss? Hearing Filipinos speak in Proper English...it is so frustrating to hear others try to imitate accents of foreign countries and end up having a regional accent instead that would have never occurred if we talked the way were taught in schools before. Pronunciation, enunciation and articulation...hehehe! Living in another country should not make you lose your culture but instead introduce it. There are so many foreigners who are interested in the Filipino culture, they start to claim to be a Filipino. A Jamaican friend of mine once mentioned that he sees Filipinos who act other than a Filipino and he thinks it's ridiculous. I couldn't comment on it because most of us do act everything else BUT a Filipino. Aren't we suppose to be patriotic? Then why do we lose ourselves in someone else's language, culture or lifestyle? Filipinos who live in foreign countries always tell me that there is no place like home while the ones in the Philippines just wants out of it. One more thing that Filipinos do not appreciate are fellow Filipinos. When you see a Spanish person, be it from Colombia, Peru or Ecuador...they see one another as the same. All Spanish, they have each other's back. For some Filipinos, they see another Filipino and they see the person as a threat...like a territorial battle is initiated...I have experienced this not only abroad, Mostly in the Philippines as well. They just learn to appreciate the person when they realize this person has a distinguished status and they suddenly want to be friends but always, if not; most of the time some Filipinos look down on fellow Filipinos. It's the same concept, if you say you are proud to be a Filipino, then you should also be proud of your fellow Filipino be it Charice Pempengco or just some random Filipino who won't really strike you as Hollywood material. We all came from and started in the Philippines, some may be born abroad but your parents came from the Philippines before... A Filipino will never be called a Filipino without the Philippines somewhere down the line. =) Great Topic!

I am proud indeed to be a true blooded Pinoy. We got lots of things to be proud of since time immemorial. Where ever we go we always manage to excel in different fields. It is sad when sometimes we put down our being Filipino. We are survivors in every sense of that word and do have an optimistic faith in God that things will work out for the best even in the face of countless typhoons, dengue fever outbreak, bad governance we still thrive.

This discussion just made me happy! Since I was young I am really proud of being Filipino, I still am will always will be! I even made a short article on how proud I am to be me, to be a Filipino and how much I love our history and our country! I'm so glad that after all what issues are happening in our country there are still some countries who are interested in our culture! ?

Of course, we can be proud just by being a filipino. Our traits, culture and tradition, etc. many things to be proud of. I guess those filipinos abroad are also proud of themselves. They're there for their livelihood not to change the fact that they're filipinos.

That's something else! I'm Filipino but I have huge interest in Japanese culture. Same reason. Because Japan's full of colorful culture and traditions. Don't get me wrong though. I'm proud to be a Filipino. I just wish other Filipinos would get their minds off the gutter and see how wonderful it is to be Pinoy. The problem with most of them is that they get too carried away with the negative things other people hear about us, in the end, they throw their race aside. Philippines is a wonderful country and Filipinos are wonderful people. There are quite a number of Pinoys all over the world. Doesn't it show our ability to adapt to other cultures? That's why, given a chance, I would love to join any homestay program or exchange programs :D

Yes I am. Although are countless reasons why I shouldn't be, it doesn't matter because there are also numerous reasons why I should be proud that I am a Filipino. I can't think of words that can justify how deeply I love our country so I hope this will suffice.
