I'm hearing about this earthquake in the news that hit the town of Mineral,Va,with the shocks felt in DC and the surrounding region..I've Never been in a quake before but have visited many times in the Virginia area, having family there-My Brother lives near DC,so he might be the first of our Family to encounter one! How about You? did you experience this Va Quake,or have you been in one elsewhere?

I am in the west coast, so I only heard about this earthquake from the news. I heard people are still bracing for aftershocks. When I was in university, and living in a dorm, we were hit by a magnitude 7 earthquake. It was so funny because as people ran outside, some people only wearing towels and still had shampoo on their heads also ran outside. It gave light to an otherwise terrifying experience.

Having the ground shake under your feet must be unsettling, and knowing there's nothing you can do about it...The only times I've felt a shock like that,it was man made..

I did not felt that because I am here in the Philippines, so far away from USA. But here in the Philippines, we experience earthquakes regularly. But the quakes are smaller ones, as compared to devastating quakes of Japan and neighboring countries.

I think that would be unsettling to Me,having regular small quakes where I lived..I'd probably always have the thought at the back of my mind about "When is there going to be a big one coming?"

Yesterday I was in my first earthquake. We felt the aftershocks all the way up here in the NY/NJ region, and I understand they were felt further north, too. It was a little scary, probably because I had never felt one before--the house shook, the lights, dishes, and such started to rattle, and I felt like I had vertigo for a minute or so. It was more of a surprise than anything--we just don't expect these things here. The cats were startled, too!

Our Animals seem to be more sensitive to this sort of thing..It takes the buildings to be shaking for us to get the idea something unusual is going on!

I live in Newport News in VA I felt it too And I was like What was that? I thought it was a truck going buy, but that earthquake is nothing compared to the earthquakes in japan I've been there and the earthquakes are scary

My Brother was in DC at the time and felt the quake..he thought it might have been some Metro train related thing-I was emailing him today, and got a photo back from him of the effects of "The Quake"..it showed a set of plastic Garden chairs and a picnic table with one of the chairs toppled!

I live on the East Coast, and have never experienced an earthquake. I didn't even know there was a panic until I checked my phone towards the end of the work day and I had four text messages and numerous facebook messages. Guess I was in a little pocket of no problems yesterday because everyone else I know felt something. I feel gypped too, especially because I've never experienced one.

So how much closer to the event were your friends and contacts when they felt it and you missed it?

GOod grief...everyone calm down. I live in southern california...earthquake country. A 5.8 - we get them couple times a year. No big deal. And the state doesn't shut everything down because of it.(they shut a nuke down in that area!) I guess cause they never get one back there, they are flipping out, but from us here in CA..it is nearly routine for a quake. The rollers are the scary ones, and the shakers are the obvious ones. SHakers and its done, but those rollers...you literally feel your house swaying back and forth! Cool, but scary.

I was reading online editions of the local newspapers for info on responses to the event-One restaurant waitress was quoted as being from California, and her response was like "Whatever-no biggie!"

I've experienced earthquake and I think the strongest one is intensity 6. That was long years ago however. I fear earthquake. With all the whole earth shaking and could fall apart anytime God decides it so, I could not really help but fall down on my knees and pray and ask God's mercy. I would not want to experience strong earthquakes again. I'm happy I've never experienced tragic earthquake experience and I thank God and I pray He would not give me that horrible experience at all.

I was like wow so I know what you mean there its crazy right?

I personally have never been in an earthquake. I'm so thankful for that as well. I feel it would be horrible to experience one. The severity of them varies i know but i don't want to experience even a small one. I feel bad for those who have recently been having earthquakes in their area.

With the West coast getting all the earthquake attention in the US,I was a little surprised to hear about this one..so it's not just concentrated in one area on the continental US..

There was an earthquake yesterday in Canada, resulting from the earthquake in the states, but I did not feel it. Last year there was also an earthquake, but I was halfway asleep that weird feeling that you get just before your knocked out. I heard some rumbling and a little shaking, but I thought it was just large trucks nearby cause of constructions, but I was too lazy to wake up. Ha ha, well that's my only experience with earthquakes, my prayers to those affected by earthquakes in the past couple years.

We are so used to heavy traffic on our roads now,a minor tremor could go completely unnoticed..

I had been. Once in my school when I was on the sixth floor. But it was barely noticeable but my classmates felt it too. It was very scary. The second one is at home. That was very slightly. It jarred the glass on the cabinet for maybe 4 seconds. It was just like a little child shaking the cabinet. Goodness let us just hope that things like these don't happen. It is something that we can't help from getting panicked.

i live in Israel and during my life i experienced few earthquakes but they were not destructive. sceintist predict that there will be a big earthquake in Israel in the future ( it can be tomorrow or in 10 years, no one can know) as we live in a sensitive place... it's a bit frightening to know that beside all the future wars we have to face also this...

As if the Social and Political Issues there weren't enough to be dealing with on a daily basis, you also have the chance of earthquakes too...
