Are they 'things'?

There is an adage that states, 'The best things in life are free.' In my opinion, human relationships are the best thing in life. So, are relationships things?

Well, a "thing" is a noun. A noun is a person, place, thing, or idea. A relationship could be considered both a thing & an idea...I guess.
And the dictionary refers to a relationship as being a noun 
I agree that a relationship would be one of the best things in life, & certainly should be free!
