The last time there was a power outage in New York was in August 2003. I remember being scared it was a hot summer day and I was listening to my portable cd player because there was nothing else to do. Please share your experiences and what you did during the blackout.

Just this year during spring we had a major storm come through. It produced many tornados and jacked things up so bad we were without power for a little over a week. You could not go anywhere because the destruction was so bad. Thankfully my husband is an outdoorsy person. We did not have a grill but he has something called a jet boil. It's this little container you Tracy to a mini propane tank. You can boil water and cook little mini meals in it. We ate a lot of hot dogs and mRE'S! We spent the days outside with battery operated radio, CDs, hula hoops, and paint. I made a mini solar oven to bake cookies and at night we made up stories before going to bed early. It was something that wasn't half bad. What I missed most was my steaming hot showers!

Anyone who has lived in Pakistan knows all about lack of power. It is called "load shedding" there. 10 or 12 hours is commonplace. Days - not unusual! What would you do without electricity for days on end? The electric company's offices are trashed regularly and it's vehicles torched.
