Do you believe in good luck?

Have you ever thought that some people are more lucky than others?
Do you consider yourself to be a particularly lucky or unlucky person?
I used to think that I was unlucky and that others were more lucky than me. In recent years I have learned that this is not true. I have learned that our choices determine our luck. If we keep putting ourselves in positions where we are open to receiving these things, then they will come to us.
A recent speech that my 11 year old daughter wrote for school titled "The choice is yours" inspired me to start thinking of how much my attitude and life has changed over the years and how this attitude is rubbing off on her.
Below are a few examples of things that people have said to me over the last few years and my responses to them.
"You are so lucky to be able to work from home." No, I am not lucky. I chose to take courses on several things and then chose to leave my secure job and work from home. It was a risky choice and at the time people told me I was mad. They would think that I am lucky now!
"You are lucky to be able to grow a food garden year round and to be able to grow tropical fruit." No luck there either as I chose to move to this sub tropical location.
"You are so lucky to be able to eat bananas at the moment as they are too expensive for us to buy with the banana shortage." No luck there either as we chose to buy a box of bananas every week off a grower and got friendly with him. He continues to sell us bananas at $2 to $3 per kilo when most people are buying them for between $11 and $16 per kilo.
"You are so lucky to be able to work on TV shows and movies. That must be awesome!" No luck there either. Again, choosing to live in an area that has a large film industry and then choosing to join an agency got me the work. It is not luck.
There are many other situations too. So what do you think about luck?
Do you feel lucky? Well, do ya??

Yes & no...I too believe that we create our own luck! The only luck I really believe in is when we win a competition or the lottery bexcause I consider it luck when our name or numbers are picked out of the draw if you know what I mean...yeah, people can say that you are lucky to work from home but in saying that, I guess I would consider you to be more of a risk taker as you risked not having a steady income to do so.

It's a good thing you persevered with it as now you can be your own boss & work your own hours & still be there for your family! I agree, we all make a choice to enter any competition!

It was risky in some ways to give up a $1000 per week income and for quite a while our savings declined as we ate into them in order to live, but we persevered even though I nearly went back to work once and now we live comfortably enough earning from home.
Yes, that is true luck. Buying a lotto ticket and winning, but it is still a conscious choice to enter the competition, so just like anything in life. You have to be in it to win it!

In real life, for some all is well;for others misfortunes never come singly, but I don't believe in so-called good luck.Today luck is with you but it does mean you are sill a lucky man tomorrow, vice versa, because many things happen quite by chance.Of course,we can't degenerate into agnosticism or accept our fate with resignation. We must set ourselves a life goals suitable to ourselves and fight for it seizing all kind of opportunities even if it likely won't come true.

That is right. We must keep ourselves ready to receive the good fortune at all times because it might not continue if we let ourselves become complacent. Even when things do not seem to be going well, sometimes those problems are a blessing in disguise so we must still remain positive in those bad times so that the good in them can come through. Getting down about any troubles will only feed the problem.
Good luck to you my friend!

most of the time I do feel lucky and I agree it is because of my choices. One other thing about luck, it is dependent on how we view our circumstances. If I feel lucky, I must be lucky.

I think luck is variable and it just depends. Though before an exam, me and my friends would wish each other luck. It offers a sense of reassurance and confidence. It's nice to wish someone good luck. But we better not abuse luck, like spending at a gambling outlet.

So true GardenGerty. If we feel lucky, then we are. That comes down to being grateful for all that we have and feeling totally blessed to be living our lives. Surrounding ourselves with other "lucky" people helps us to become lucky too.

hi rawbill.
agree with you here. i've always believed that luck is simply a matter of preparedness meeting opportunity. the situations you've cited are perfectly good examples.
to quote a soda commercial, 'we are the products of the choices we make'.

That quote sums it up pretty well Allen.
I feel that our choices (both good and bad do determine where we end up in life. Simple things that do not seem very important at the time, can have huge consequences further down the track.

U may be right. Sometimes u have to look for those blessings but they are there. It's hard to see them sometimes when things aren't going like u would like for them to.

Sometimes our problems are actually blessings in disguise too. We just have to stay positive, be patient and wait for them to show us what they really mean.

I not believe only on good luck I believe on our efforts and good luck both if luck is good but we are not using it and taking efforts then we can not achieve anything but if we are doing efforts and our luck is also with us then we can achieve lots of things..I think efforts is most important to make our luck is good..

Yes, good luck comes to those who put in the effort and who work smart. If we are not prepared to put ourselves in the position to receive luck, then it certainly will not come to us.

Well, you are right.
You make your own luck by the choices you make.
I consider myself fairly lucky, but it is because I invested a lot of my time in the past to make things happen. And it is also because I establish a solid relationship with the people that matter.
I have zero luck in gambling because I cannot control it. So I simply don't gamble.

Exactly! Investing time to create opportunities is well worth it as you never know what luck will come our way. It is a good idea to avoid gambling because most of the luck you will get out of that habit is bad luck. Companies that control gambling exist because they turn a profit. Meaning, they win more than they lose.

i am not sure if i really believe in luck.
i know i am happy with my family but not totally satisfied.
that's because i have not so good job which have high salary that is sufficient enough to buy all the needs of my family.
i could be poor but i can say i am only much fortunate than the poorest of the poor.

Hi Neil. Having money is only one area of fortune. If you have a healthy and happy family that love you then you are indeed a very lucky person. I know that you have had some troubles in the past, but if you stay positive and keep focused on enjoying life, then you will have good luck my friend!

Do you feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?
Some of the work you're doing in film is starting to rub off on you! :-)
And how's that 30 bananas a day guy doing these days at $11.95 a kilo for bananas???
Yep - you got it! We, in part at least, create our own so-called good fortune by the good or not-so-good choices we make each day. There are other forces at work as well, but at least if we do our bit & point ourselves in the right direction, then it might all work out in the end.
Here's to more good luck situations for you!

Yeah, I love a bit of Clint Eastwood. Particularly the old Westerns and Dirty harry stuff.
The guys that run 30BAD are in New York at the moment (or they were a few weeks ago) where they are enjoying cheap fruit. Produce is cheap in the USA so there is no excuse for those over there to be not eating well.
It is amazing what comes our way when we are open to receiving. I believe that we make our own luck. There may be other forces that come into play but like you say, we have to be facing in the right direction to see it coming.

I believe in luck, but I think that no one is lucky all the time. I have my lucky days, when it seems that everything work no matter how wrong I do the things and, others times, I do everything right and everything goes wrong.

No, good luck does not always come our way, but if we stay positive through the bad times those bad times may turn out to be blessings in disguise. We need to remain open to good things coming our way even when it feels like they are not.

Yes many times in my life I feel like that too.We are taught that we should work hard but and more hard work we do we will get rewarded accordingly But when it comes to real day to day life I dont find it applicable. In life 2+2 is not always 4.if you are very lucky your result can be 5 or more .. and if you are an unlucky person at that point of time of life you end up less than normal reward ie 4.
The point I want to make is hard work is in our hand but its result varies person to person and that is because of being lucky or unlucky.
We are always taught to work hard and whether in studies or any kind of work in life because its hard work that is in our hand what will we get in result of that thats not in our hand.At least I dont agree with this logic that hard work always gives you appropriate rewards. Many times in life you dont get what you deserve to have. That means there is something works in our life that decides what we will going to receive.
Again its my personal observation.People who are lucky most of the time wont agree with me.They think what they have is only because they working hard for that.

Hard work is an important factor in becoming lucky, but like you say. Hard work does not guarantee you luck as many people work hard for little reward. That is where smart work comes in. We must work smarter and not harder. Working smarter involves networking with people that are already where we want to be. It means educating ourselves on how to earn a passive income, or to duplicate our work efforts to produce more output. Working smart can also mean just keeping a positive attitude and believing in ourselves. It most certainly involves us getting outside of our comfort zone as that is where all the big rewards and the luck lies in waiting for us!

hi:)
yes most of the time I consider myself lucky, but I think being optimistic have a lot to do with that,I chose to see things in positive way.
but yeah sure there are so many people that have almost everything they want but I don't compare myself to them. I'm happy with what I have now.
more luck friend!

Being optimistic and expecting things to work out the way we hope is a big part of being lucky I feel. You are right to not compare yourself with others. There are no benefits in doing that. Being happy with what we have and grateful for it all will help to attract more good things into our lives.

For me I don't think it`s about luck. I believe that if you are optimistic and think and live positively then it will reflect in your life. Meaning all the good you put out will be returned in a generous manner. I choose to live this way.
Others rather be pessimistic in life. When you spend your time focused on the negative and waiting for bad things to happen, basically being paranoid, they usually find you in ten-folds

That is true. Attitude plays a big part in attracting luck. I used to hang around a lot of negative people and work with them too. It was one of the main reasons that I had to leave my work as I knew that surrounding myself with that negativity would keep me down. Now I only work in a positive atmosphere and choose to be friends with positive people who are doing great things.

Some times things go well, some times not. I would say, destiny plays a very important role in the course of the life time. For me, one thing I am lucky about at this time is the job I have. I am pretty much a career-minded person, and, after a long search, I have got the right kind of job that I have been dreaming of.

That is awesome that you have your dream job. Most people dream of having an income from doing something that they love, but few achieve it. You say that destiny plays a part, but who controls this destiny? I say that we do. Even at a subconscious level, I believe we can control our destiny without even realising it.

I am very fortunate. I have a healthy body, people I love and who love me and something to do every day and to me that is very lucky! I believe we make our own luck and that we are not necessarily born lucky or unlucky. I also give credit to the power of my thoughts for the good things in my life. When the book ‘The Secret’ came out and became so popular I wondered what was so secret about the information in it as I learnt all that stuff years ago. You are what you think and eat. Try good healthy thinking and nutrition and your luck will change for the better I guarantee it!

That is true Paula. you are in control of your destiny and make your own luck. The Secret was good, but like you, I had read that stuff in books already and been to seminars where I learned these things. That movie, book, etc was a great money making venture for those who created it, but the information was good for those who were not yet exposed to such things. It is not magic, just a good positive attitude to everything we do in our lives.
