How Eclectic Are You?

A friend of mine knew, like all of our other friends, that I am a music lover. But he never really expected how much of a music lover I am until, he stayed at my apartment for a almost a month. I remember his surprised faces every time he hears me playing different kinds of song genres. From pop songs to R&B and Jazz to acoustic alternatives, he most of the times sings along quite well. But imagine his facial expressions when i started to play Opera to African Tribal Music and Bollywood music to Native American music. I loved the songs as much as I loved the reactions! lol. How about you? Let's see how eclectic are you?

First of all, I would like to know what is the meaning of the word electic? With regard to music, I also love playing and listening to music, all kind of music. But I am not as well talented as you, you said you can play almost all types of music, from native, to tribal, to jazz, and to classical. Wow, that's great! I wish I could play and sing the way you do.

Hello there my friend. I believe the word eclectic is synonymous to varied or assorted. For example, I said I am pretty eclectic because my taste in music is kind of wide range. Therefore, assorted and varied. Sorry if my explanation is not clear, hehe, I ain't Merriam-Webster. Lol. Thanks for your compliment magtibaygom! But I just want to clear something here. You may have thought I play them on an instrument or something. What I meant was that, I play them on my Music player and listen to them. I'm sorry I haven't explained it well on my thread. But modesty aside, I do play the piano and sing. Music is one of my life's passions.

I listen to all kind of music if it is good. I have no affection towards a particular genres or the language. I listen to songs for which I don't know the meaning but if i like the beat or the composition of it them I will listen to it. when I am listening to any Japanese songs my family members will ask me what language is it and what is the meaning, but I don't care until it is good to hear.

Sometimes, appreciating a certain kind of music comes with just listening to the melody of the song regardless that you don't understand what is being sung and you might not even know where on earth did it came from! But when you listen to it, you just get captivated, intrigued, fascinated and then you'll know, you liked it.

My music collection is fairly eclectic I think. There's all kinds of genres in there, pop, rock, metal, punk, jazz, opera, rap, classical, a bit of bhangra and so on. The only thing I don't think you would find is any Country - I'm just not keen on it I'm afraid. I've never really understood people who just have one type of music they like when there is such a huge variety to choose from. I go through phases with the type of music I'm listening to at the time though - at the moment it's reggae, next week it will probably be something else.

I go through phases too stiletto. Like this week i'll go crazy over Foreign folk music the I'd go opera next week then House music on the next, something like that. There's really a lot to choose from, it's a matter of exploring them so you'll determine if you like them or not.

I like to listen to just about every type of music except the newer rock styles. That lost me somewhere along in the 80s, I think. Other than that, jazz, dixieland jazz, country, folk, bluegrass, older pop songs, big band, classic, gospel, praise and worship and just about all Christian music. Kind of eclectic, yeah...

I am a lot like you. Jazz to swing to Jpop and Jrock (japanese pop and rock) along with contemporary christian and traditional hyms. I love music and the emotions it all evokes and I love dancing to it too. So much fun.

Cool! Yeah, it really sets up the mood that you want. I haven't tried listening to Japanese music yet, but is it good? Maybe I'll try looking for one anytime soon so I could tell.

I also like different kinds of music. I don't have a particular genre that I listen too, except that I never love rock music. I also don't have a particular artist to whom I listen to. I look at the quality of the song and the message of the lyrics, that's how I love songs.

I must say I am not particularly crazy over rock music neither but I kind of like them too sometimes. Anyway, there's always a mood for listening to music, so, who knows, you might like to listen to it one time too.

I'd like to think I'm pretty eclectic but maybe not as much as you. I grew up listening to everything my parents listened to and then added into what I liked. My parent's tastes were pretty wide spread too. They listened to older stuff from when they were kids plus newer stuff like Metalica and Tool. So I listened to all of that plus stuff I liked and then I also got different tastes from stuff my friends liked too. Our area is kind of split between country and pop with some heavy metal stuff. I was so excited to get an ipod because then I could keep all of my different types of music in one place.

I think I can relate to you, growing up listening to what parents listened to. Maybe that's why I became this eclectic too. But anyhow I like it, coz I get to discover other music and explore whether I'd be able to like them.
