My first real job was as a clerk in the library in my hometown in 1960. I had always wanted to be a librarian because I love books and love helping people find books they want to read. I was very good at this when I later worked in a bookstore.
Back then, you could be a branch librarian without a degree in library science, but I was hoping I would get that degree. I graduated from UCLA, which did have a library school, with a B.A. in English, but I got married and we moved to a community where there was no School of Library Science nearby, so I got a teaching credential instead. In the United States, you needed a Master's degree in Library Science to be a librarian.
As it turns out, by the time I had graduated, librarian jobs had become so specialized I probably wouldn't have enjoyed any of them. I had wanted to be a branch librarian in a small town where I was able to answer questions, help patrons find books they would like, and do many jobs -- not just one. After a couple of decades, city and county budgets started to be cut, along with lots of librarian jobs, so it probably wouldn't have been very secure.

Before she retired my mom was a librarian after she became qualified. Her last job was of a reference librarian at a town library. That was in the days before the Internet.`` She used to get a Library Journal every month. I often liked to read it in my teenage years. I think some library jobs were in cities, towns and villages. The jobs I thought sounded especially interesting were in school and college librarian posts. In my home country many people have been made redundant and lots of folk are unemployed. Sadly with council cuts some of the village libraries have been closed. They give those villages the mobile library once a week or fortnight. I hope that you will find a librarian job easily when you qualify. Good luck.

There is such a major as mentioned, but the salary of a librarian is not very high at all in our school. I got to know this from our school librarians though their work is not as stressful as that of a teacher's. In schools in China, there are librarians working in the school libraries. So for sure there is a job available in line with the course, but the job vacancy is not as prominent compared with that of a teacher's. Take care and enjoy yourself.

Bachelor's degree in Librarianship ! That is very good. Of course , there can be very good opportunities for employment. There are big Public Libraries here in the City, and they certainly would look for qualified librarians from time to time. I am sure you have a good future.

There's the job of being a librarian... I assume. I don't know. I never looked into it. And I never asked the librarians at my local library, and the school libraries how they got their jobs.
What do I think of librarians? Well I love books and I love libraries, but I never thought much about librarians. They're really just regular people as far as I can tell... with probably one of the best jobs ever (in my eyes).
