I just wonder, if you got your Television, like your flat screen TV broken, or not function as you want it to be, do you still want it to get fixed, or would you simply dump it to dumpster and it is cheaper to get a new one? How would you know when it is good time to get a new one, or it is better get it fixed and extend its life for a couple of years or so? Whenever I shop at those electronic stores, I knew when I come to the cashier counter, they would pitched me on those crappy extension warranty, but the question is, should I pay extra to get one, or would it be cheaper when it is no longer work, I can get a new one any time, since electronics wasn't that expensive in comparison to a few years ago? Do you have a general guideline to share with us here?

If that electronic item is still under guarantee, then i will let them repair and continue using it. If the guarantee had expired, then i will need to check the price of repairing first. If it is too expensive, then i might prefer to buy a new one to replace that old item. I prefer to spend as little money as possible in replacing any electronic item that had broke in my home.

Though I am not a technician of some sort, when I have a broken electronic, I enjoy trying to open it up and see if I could fix it. But ONLY if it was really broken. The decision of getting an electronic fixed is very dependent. I would usually only have something fixed by friends who know what their doing, because usually unless it is being fixed by the warrant of a company, those people fixing your electronic are in a way scammers as their business is slow. Resulting in them fixing your appliance, in a way it will break down later on, or they would suggest fixing it even though the problem wasn't that. They can get really creative. In the end, perhaps the part of the television maybe the main part of the television, i.e. the most expensive part resulting in a fix that is very much similar to the price of the television or any electronic for that matter. So you can decide that it would be better to buy a new one. Generally if it is an electronic that doesn't change in advancement quite frequently it is okay to get it fixed but I only suggest by people you know. But we are talking by electronics, so they do update frequently. Usually most electronics I purchase have 1 to 2 years warranty. I do not purchase extra year warranty because after 2 years new versions will come out, and It may be worth it to change. I am also very careful of everything I own, so they last longer. But like I said it is very dependent. Most electronics have a lifespan, if a part breaks, and you get it fixed, there is no doubt another part is aged and will also break soon. So it might be a better idea to get a new one. Unless there is sentimental value, there is no need to keep anything that can be easily replaced.

I don't know a lot about flatscreen TV's,how reliable they are with normal use,or how prone they might be to breaking down...(Don't have one,yet..)I have seen a couple of flatscreen monitors that quit,(Not Mine!)..So it would depend on how long it had been in use..Buy something like a TV,and it usually will come with a Maker's warranty for a Year. If you have a problem within a short time after purchase, the shop should replace it.I figure if it will last a Year under normal use,it's going to work out ok..The CRT TV I have is now 14,and maybe could be fixable if it quits..not holding my breath waiting ,though! Generally,Consumer advice sites (As I do) reckon those pushed aftersales warranties are of more benefit to the salesperson's sales targets than to the person buying them..but it IS peace of mind.as long as they cover you for what you need.but do check the small print for what they cover in the event of something going wrong..Would it be just parts for a repair, leaving you paying for the labour costs? or new for old replacement? and does it cover you for accidental damage, like do they allow cover if the cat knocks your flatscreen off the shelf to the floor?! If you have home contents insurance, the warranty may be unnecessary..why pay twice?

Most of the time I will call its company to arrange the repairmen. As it will be a waste to dump it. Usually it can be fixed and it can still work well for a long time. I love China

Hi Kingparker, I would take just one to two years extended, since I doubt I want to change a new computer or washing machine every two years. It is good to have something that works for three to five years, and then change to a newer model once they are not in working condition anymore. I think the newer model usually uses lesser electricity, and are more efficient than the older model.

Hi. I always ask myself how to do when I face the same situation. Maybe the cost is an important factor when we decide how to deal with. The electronics changes very quickly, so maybe you can get a new but much cheaper than the cost of the repair when it doesn't work. And in that, maybe buy a new one. But you know, when we used some devices some years later, we were used to using the one in our hand. So no matter what the price is, we will fix it. So, we can give you some advice, but you can decide just by yourself.

I guess I would fix it most likely. I like to extend my things as long as I can. We have fixed out televisions and I get my computers fixed as long as I can. It has always been the better way to go for me. Unless your television is outdated and you would prefer a newer version.

I think it all depends on how much it costs to fix it and how easy it would be to fix it myself. I would not want to pay alot to have it fixed if I could get a new one close to the same price.

It is definately a hard decision when it comes to replacing electronics and/or appliances. If you are able to, I would try to find out how much it would cost to repair the item. After knowing how much the repair is, I would compare it to the price of a new version of the same item, the lenght of time I've had the bad item, and if there are any new items out there that perform better than what I had. Money would be an issue for me. I would not just toss out anything before looking into it more.

Anything I have paid money for, if after a while it breaks down I determine what it cost me before I decide if I should get it looked at first. If it cost me a good amount of money then I will look into how much it will cost me to have it repaired. Generally if the repairs is going to cost me almost as much as a new one, I almost always tend to buy a new one then to have it repaired. Simply because if it breaks down again then I have now invested more then it is actually worth.
