noticed whether or not your grammar, sentence structure, etc is bad on mylot?

My husband was reading some of my discussions, and others. Has he read a lot out loud he picked on me and other discussions because he noticed how some words were switched around, misspelled or the sentence structure was wrong. I think that because we come up with so many discussions, comment on discussions, and respond to our discussion that this happens. I think that if we were to read some of our discussions out loud we could laugh about it. As my husband and I did because it really did sound aweful. I had to remind him that as well as all the typing we do, that I also have to do this late at night when my brain isn't working as well as I would like it too. Have you noticed this habit in your typing on mylot?

Yes this is true and happens quite often with me. Although I do re-read a lot of times, I guess my eyes play tricks sometimes. I do strive for perfect English with no errors but it happens and sometimes I do go back and make a comment to my response to correct it. I think a lot of us are sort of having so much fun here that we even overlook errors sometimes, as if our eyes are self editing what we are reading. lol

I agree I think our eyes start to play tricks on most of us here. After stairing at the computer screen for so long and especially if we've had a very productive day on mylot. That entails a lot of time and effort. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. It can be funny when we see what we've typed.

Yes! I do this all the time. I leave out a word or make a painful grammar mistake. My posts always have at least one of these - without I would get scared. I would wonder what was wrong with me. ;) Besides, myLot is about fun and socializing. If I want to write like academia I wouldn't be here.

Yeah mine usually has more than one mistake by the time that i've posted it and read it. Now I try to be more conscious about it. But it will happen again. I enjoy mylot and like posting and getting to know everyone here. And so I don't worry about it unnecessarily. As long as others can understand where I'm coming from and it isn't very very aweful. :)

I try to keep my grammer as good as possible here on mylot. Sometimes I may be rushing and make a typo, but I don't do that on purpose. Unfortunately I usually don't notice until after I push the submit button and then I see that I have made an error, that is always dissapointing to me. I think everyone messes up once in a while though.

I agree that we all slip up here and there. It's only natural. Especially when there are so many opportunities to create and respond to topics. We are often in a hurry to get one thing done so that we can start on another. But I do think that I'm going to try to be more effective in both areas: spelling/grammar/ and still getting a lot accomplished.

Right, that's what exactly happens to me often yet I try my utmost to send my postings for publication after reading and rereading them so that there remains most minimum chance of mistakes that ultimately can make me ashamed on myself.

Well it happens to me as well. I would be so involved to answer and once i post my answer and try to read, i find i have mispelled, missed a word and so on. But i believe it would be understandable for the others. As mylot is great place to communicate and hope the spellings and grammar wont be a problem.

This happens to all of us i'm sure. Mylot is a great place to be and i'm sure that the spelling and grammar won't be a problem. There are so many people from different places that makes it great.

Nobody's perfect. That, we should always put it mind. Sometimes , in my haste i wasn't able to proof read what i have just typed. Hence , Tickling, was typed as ticking. Or the way i typed a word such as used will be sued. Well, here at Mylot, grammar is not much of a problem. It is the way we are able to express ourselves, that matters actually.

Yeah we all will make mistakes. And I agree with you that at times we change our words to another word. :) It is very easy to do when we are in a rush. Mylot is a nice place to be at. I really enjoy it.

I personally noticed many mistakes of syntheses and spellings etc. in MyLot sent by some of MyLot participants here. Hope MyLot authorities would care to have posted those postings which are found correct to great extent or at least they edit them and then have those postings published...

I think there are a lot of members here who have been here for a long time. And after a time when a person post daily, and so often there are bound to be errors. It's a good thing though that Mylot doesn't have strict rules regarding this. Otherwise we would all have to spend a lot of time on editing our work and that would distract from the atmosphere here.

You have brought out many good points here. Things that I've thought about. I wouldn't want these things to happen to mylot. It is such a great site. So hopefully if we all work at editing our work it will better benefit mylot and in the long run us if we stick with it. Thanks for sharing this information it was really helpful.

Right, yet somewhat of editing probably can be needful when MyLot find too many mistakes of someones that create no sense or sounds as abusive. However, minor mistakes may be ignored and have them published but too much of mistakes may discourage many members to quit the site, most probably for the reason that most of us learn from each other. In case too many mistakes in posting would be found published, many members may consider that this esteemed site is getting as cheap as many others in which learned people postpone appearing here we may lose many of them forever. Thus this site may lose its popularity/reputation when learned people would leave the site gradually. Notwithstanding, as I've said minor mistakes containing postings can be accepted my mylot and such ones can be published on the site. Whereas, if there are too many grammatical and spelling mistakes then mylot may please care to skip such ones from being published.... With regards, ARShams

Yes on the spelling side. As for the rest most of the time others notice them first. Most probably they were the result of trying to do several things at the same time. Watching Internet TV and thinking of something else while mylotting are normal to me.

The window is kept to a small size for most of the time. I only enlarge it when there is something interesting, with the result of not getting much done. I think multi-tasking helps to keep the mind flowing.

I don't think I would get anything done if I didn't multitask!:) So I agree that probably one of the reasons that we make mistakes when we are posting. It would be cool to watch internet tv and mylot at the same time, but i don't think I would be able to get much accomplished that way.

Hi, Interesting discussion. You are right.Often in a hurry to participate in discussions we mistype or misspell words. It has happened with me in some discussions where I have responded in detail but then read my response and found that may be I have written "but' with a space in between-as "b ut".It feels so terrible then when we read our responses ourselves. One day I found myself so drowsy I did not know what to type though I wanted to answer a discussion and then I ended up with typing errors.I wish there was an edit option which would allow us to correct our mistakes. Have a nice day.

I myself have felt drowsy too when trying to respond to discussion. I wish they did have an edit option that would be so awesome. It would make our post look a lot better. But until then we will keep trying to improve and when we mess up we won't overwhelm ourselves about it :).

It happens. Not intentionally. I think I have fried my brain because I had to homeschool my son in the last 3 years of his high school. I graduated in 1970. English and structure has changed a lot. If you don't believe it go sign on to grammarly.com You will be able to use it free for 7 days. I use it to assist me with my writing articles. The way English is taught today is so complicated. I know I litterally made my health worse teaching my son for those 3 years. I had to learn it to teach it so there were many nights of burning the candle at both ends so to speak. We have to take in consideration all cultures come and have broken english. We also have people that have not finished highschool let alone go to college or any other school. Some have done the 6 week get your diploma thing and they are not actually graduated from high school with all that needs to be done. While I am in my first stage of dementia, thats why I do mylot to try to stay active in my learnings and reading. I also have other illnesses that can make me mess up. My girlfriend from Canada said she can tell when I have taken my meds and then write her an email. I just love reading regardless if they are 100% correct or not. If its a discussion I like I can reply to. Even if some I cannot reply to I sometimes choose to read to learn. So we shouldn't be to hard on ourselves or others. Life happens even a misspelled word. There are many times I will spell something and swear it looks wrong and spell check it and its right. There are other times I am sure I am right and should have spell checked it So theres my sign LOL

Thank you so much for best response. It was a struggle. Only part of learning I excelled in was medical after school. But I turned my kitchen aisle into a chemistry lab, biology lab, and we also sewed and cooked for home ec. on that convient piece in my kitchen! I am very fortunate he graduated with a 3.42 GPA He was also #159 out of 659 kids graduating that year so he graduated in the upper 1/3 of his class. I teased my counselor that worked with us and told her to ask the Principal if I did not deserve a new diploma too! Have a wonderful day and again thank you.

I can imagine how hard it was to teach your son when it's been so long since you have went to school. That would have been very hard. I'm glad that you both were able to deal patiently with each other throughout those years. And I agree it's no big deal if we spell something wrong, or make a mistake. After all we aren't getting paid for that part.

Finally! Someone stands up for proper English spelling and grammer. I also have noticed that I make a lot of spelling errors on My Lot while I have no trouble writing on other sites. Some of the keys I am pressing are not registering and I don't realize it. So, I hit the next letter and then later discover that a letter has been left out. But, I don't think it is my fault. I don't know enough about how computers work to explain what I think is happening. But it has something to do with the software and the operating system you use. If you are worried about this, you can always hit the "preview response" button before you post.

Yeah I agree it can be easy to start having computer issues. Mylot is such a wonderful site and I want it to be able to stay this way. Another person mentioned not wanting others to visit the site and view it has cheap because of all the errors in post. I thought that was a good point. So if we all do our part we can help mylot to have a good reputation.

I agree with you. I also made some mistakes in sentence construction, grammar, omit words, etc. unfortunately we can not correct these because we can not edit our discussions, responses and comments after these are posted. Or there is a way to edit but we just don't know how.

I think it is easy to mess up with our discussions and comments. There are a lot of things that we can respond too. And often times we are in a rush to get things done. But even then, it can be fun to look back at our errors and think what in the world was I trying to say.

I have bad grammar and all kinds of things wrong on here! You know why? Because Mylot does not penalize me for it. At least I hope not. Anyway, I have other jobs I work where I have to count words, use correct grammar, e.c.t. And if I don't I get in trouble. I feel like on Mylot I can just kick back, relax, and type away.

I too am very glad that Mylot doesn't penalize for this as well. There are writing companies for example that are very strict. This to me is discouraging. So I'm happy that I can be apart of mylot, make friends, and earn at the same time.

I sometimes space out when I answer discussions in my Lot so grammar mistakes and left out words are inevitable. For me, as long as what I wrote still make sense then its okay. I usually proof read what I write but there are just those times where your brain does not function properly even when proof reading what you wrote that there are really a lot of embarassing mistakes on your replies. It's a good thing everyone can relate about this here.

Oh yes, very true. sometimes we focus so much on the discussions that we don't even notice how badly we write. Another reason for this is, many MyLot users live in countries with different languages, such as myself, so it may be hard for some of us to write on a foreign language since it is not our primary one and it makes it harder for us to express ourselves correctly. I also laugh each time I see my mistakes

Yeah I agree with you that it can be hard for those who live in different countries to write in a foreign language and express themselves. I know that I would diffinitely have a hard time doing this. It is funny to read our post especially when we've been posting for awhile and are tired.

oh i make quite a few mistakes too, and the annoying thing is, though i read them through before i post them, i always see something i've missed after i've posted it. but the rules say we mustn't complain about grammar and spelling, as it is a website where many people don't have english as their first language. and i like that, as i find reading comments in forums where people complain about spelling and grammer annoying, as to post so many comments without any mistakes would require the sort of perfectionism that is too time consuming for anyone to adhere too. so dominque, you can't even complain about your own bad grammar or spelling!

I too am glad that mylot isn't strict when it comes to grammar and spelling. That would require a lot of time and perfection. Especially when a person makes very long post. It would be hard to be at a forum when that is all they focus on. It would get pretty discouraging as well. Because you would often be thinking of only the way your grammar and structure is and whether or not anyone will comment on it. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, Dominique. It really happens here for some reasons. Like me, I don't usually read again my comments or discussions before posting it. I just found later on when I had nothing to do and wanted to read all the posts that I made. I just laugh. It happens. I do have mistake. If mylot is for TECHNICAL WRITING where the staffs could check our ENGLISH then this would be a great thing. Many mylotters would really show how good they are in it. However, ideas and opinions are greatly needed in here so we can build good relationship with fellow mylotters. (hugs and kisses)

Yes same things happen to me also. Now adays we use so much time in surfing and chatting, our brain has adapted to the short-hand writing style. we chat with lots of friends simultaneously, so with the increasing need of sending replies to all of them, the size the words has constantly decreased. Even most conscious persons also do this if he is tired, because subconscious mind plays significant role at that time, our concious mind being a little indifferent.

Yeah a lot of people are use to the short hand writing. I agree there is a lot going on when we are trying to reply to everyone's discussions or respond to ours. Our brain starts to think in how we usually respond to these things. Whether it's like short hand or normal. It affects how we chat, or send messages.
