As long as I dont use the cell phone as an alarm to wake me up, there is no reason I should leave that gadget on 24 hours. Emergency Calls? Yes, whatever emergency, I cannot help any better in the mid of the night and they would only disturb me.

I am so glad and happy that you remember that great discussion... it is still one of my favorites here
I miss you there in Hell and that is why I took special leave from my busy day there to drop onto your world here
Yes, I will try to be on your discussions... as right now, it has been about a month that I have moved to the new place and I still do not have an Internet connection there
Never mind, I can stay connected via the cafe as today
Take care dear friend

I do agree with you on this.
I never switch off my cellphone as well as my husband's too, whenever we sleep. Our daughter might suddenly miss us in the middle of her studies in a far city . Or there could be an emergency from any of my family members from our hometown or from any relatives, so it has to be always switched on.
That way, we are always ready to help anyone.

I prefer to keep it ON, even while sleeping
You are right, there might be an emergency call when we are sleeping. And I think we have to keep alert with that one.
Well, if there's a prank phone call on the midnight, I would happily to turn my cellphone off, anyway

Hi siliguri, there isn't any problem for me to switch off my cell phone before going to bed for we have our land phone. Friends or relatives or closed ones will call us in case they need any urgent help. For those don't have house phone it's a must to keep the communication device on all time. Apart from helping others it's also for the convenience of the cellphone owner to ask for emergency handily
Happy posting

Personally speaking, I usually turn my mobile phone to offline mode while I'm sleeping at night. Compared with switching off the mobile phone, turning it to offline mode is a better choice, which could save the energy of battery. Just as you said, someone may call us at night if they need our help. Those who have close relationship with me such as families and relatives know the number of my landline phone, which works full-time, so I could switch off my cellphone without worrying the situation you mentioned.

hi,
for me i never switch my phone off while i sleeping at night because the only alarm clock i have is my phone and because my phone could really wake me up,and aside from that if there's any problem or an emergency call my phone is still up so they can reach me anytime.

I leave mine on purely for the morning alarm. It's a nice gentle one that does the job but doesn't wake me up with a jolt!

I sleep very late and I don't expect anyone to call me afterwards so I normally switch off my phone till morning at 5:30 to be exact. If the area is dangerous to walk at night you can not expect anyone's help whatever what the situation is. Unless I'm expecting an important call, I have no reason to keep my phone on at night.

I don't switch off my cell phone at night when I go to sleep. I don't expect it to ring or anything, I just don't shut it off. I don't see a reason to. Sometimes, when my daughter needs me she calls me on my phone.. she is just in the other room, but she has dizzy spells sometimes. So if she has a dizzy spell I don't want her to try and walk to get me. She can call me and I can go to her.

Some people believe it helps you sleeping better, I am personally not concerned about this at all. I don't notice any difference at al, and most of times I place the cell phone under my pillow. It's and old tradition I always do.

I don't switch mine off. I'd never remember to switch the damn thing back on again.
I just leave it in my handbag, and my handbag is in the living room. I'd be unlikely to hear it if I was sleeping.
I don't think my phone has ever BEEN in the bedroom.
anyone that needs me has my home number.

I always switch off my mobile phone in the early evening or late afternoon. I like to sit and just chill out during the evening and I don't want to be disturbed. I have a land-line with a answer machine on it, and if somebody wasn't to talk to me urgently, I will hear them making the call and will be able to interrupt the answer machine. At bedtime, the volume of the answer-machine is turned down as I do not want to be awoken. I wouldn't hear the phone ring anyway
All my family and friends know this and as I explain to them. Peoplay haven't always had mobile phones or even landlines and everybody managed before they came along. Nowadays, it is being more and more proved that many people are becoming slaves to all their communication devices and these cause unnecessary stress that leads to poor health.
There is also the fact that if friends or family are in need of help in the middle of the night and they can phone me, then they can also phone a ambulance if they are in serious trouble as the medics could do far more than I can. I would only phone an ambulance on their behalf if they were in trouble anyway. _Derek

I have a BlackBerry, which takes a long time to load up when you switch it on. Because of this, I will always keep it on at night and will just turn it to silent. This means that I am able to check my messages first thing in the morning without having to wait for ages, which is helpful when you don't have very much time to yourself in order to get ready in the morning. I like to know that my friends and family could still get through to me during the night if there was a problem, whereas they wouldn't be able to if I didn't have the phone on.

I never switch off my cell phone while I'm sleeping at night. The main reason is because I also use my cell phone as my alarm clock. But, on the weekends, I don't switch off too, because I think that is very rare that someone will call me during this time, I can count in my hands the time that someone called me while I was sleeping.

I also leave my phone open at nights, you'll never know if there's an emergency somewhere or someone might actually need to call you at that time. I also have my phone on loud, no one texts me anyways so calls are more likely to come in.
