a couple of months ago this year, a very young actor died from a car accident.before he died , he did the very noble act of donating his cornea to the organ donor bank.yesterday, the recipients of his two corneas were interviewed on television. its very heartwarming to see that their lives have changed because of the new cornea that they received. if i were given a chance to donate a part of my body,i would also donate my corneas. have you thought about organ donation?which part of your body would you donate?

I'm an organ donor... or should i say a future organ donor. You can sign up to be an organ donor when you renew your drivers license. Normally we don't know where the organs or body parts go. One of my friends donated one of her kidneys a few years ago for a friend. She got a free T-shirt that says she is an organ donor. She wears it proudly, because she made a difference in someone's life.

You make an excellent point here about the fact that there are things that we can chose to donate while we are still alive that can save the life of someone else. We can donate a kidney (as you have already mentioned), and we can also donate bone marrow as well as blood. They are even able to do a partial liver transplant with a living donor, which has had good success rates.

If given the opportunity, I'd donate any part they'd find useful.
But since I'm a diabetic, which means my body parts can't be re-used.
I've already decided that when my time comes, I'm donating my body to science.
There's always hospitals with student doctors, and they always need bodies to learn with, so am quite happy to help in this way.

No offense intended, but I'm glad you're not then.
I'd rather my body used to educate others than have it turning to ashes or rotting in the ground.
I know it ultimately gets disposed of in the long run, but if the doctors can, in the meantime, learn from it, so as to stop others from having my health issues, then I'd be happy.

I would donate any body part that could be used. I don't know if they would want to take any of my organs now because of the cancer that has invaded my body, but I believe that most of my body is still healthy if I could just get rid of the cancer. I have been listed as an organ donor for years, but I don't know if they disqualify someone if they have cancer. I know I can't donate blood any more which is a disappointment to me. Have a great week!!!

I will not be donating my organs. The reason is they would not be able to use my organs. I am morbidly obese. Do to that doctors would not use my organs. My organs can't be trusted to be be useful in someone elses body. Otherwise I would do that.

None of your organs can be used? Are you sure? I can understand why some might not be viable due to your obesity, especially if there is fatty build-up in and around them, but surely at least your eyes could be used. My sister was obese, and she was also an organ donor. Obviously they could not use her organs due to the cancer, but they never once said that there was any other reason her organs could not be used.

If you refer my earlier discussions, you can find some of my wishes and responses. Earlier it was my desire that whatever body parts can make use of any one ore if anyone can get any kind of use from my remains, let it go as per the requirement of the needy. But the recent thoughts make me restless, but why? why to do all these noble things, as I got cheated by the world around?
Thank-s

when we donate something that we own to another person its an act of charity on our part. when we donate our body parts i think its the ultimate act of charity; an act of love for our fellow man. thanks for responding to this discussion i've started and thank you for adding me to your long list of friends here in my lot.

That is quite grand of him. Just that have heard from my Mom that there seems to be a running scheme when you are alive and have sign for an organ donation they will kill you in order to get the organ that is how some people need the money. Last two years ago very bad people kidnap children and get their organs to sell to the black market and some government people not wanting to let people panic just say that its not true. Then why did my mom's friend lose her daughter to this group that was first hand information.

Organ matching is far more complicated than that. You can't just go get a random kidney or liver or other organ and transplant it into someone. Blood types must match up first. Then, there are other factors that will determine whether or not the organ will be a viable match for the recipient. Finally, there are very careful procedures that need to be followed to ensure that the organ does not get damaged while it is being transported not to mention that there is a very limited window of time for the transplant to happen. Even in the best circumstances, many the recipient's body will reject the transplant, and they will have to be put on medication right away to avoid permanent damage to the new organ. Therefore, abducting random children to harvest their organs would not be a very lucrative scheme, and I can't see why they would do it.
I am very sorry for your mother's friend whose daughter was kidnapped. Unfortunately, people kidnap children every day for a variety of sick and twisted reasons, and it is awful.

It is indeed a noble act.If I die I would donate my kidneys if possible and like you if my corneas are good then I would donate them also. A common friend received a donated kidney because his kidneys had failed. It suited him well and I think he is okay right now.

Yes, if you were given the chance then go ahead nd donate because you dont knw how that is going to help people and mke their lives so much happier nd better. If were given the chance to donate an organ, i wpuld ask first wich organ is the most needed nd i will think abt donating that organ. Its a very noble nd humanly thing to do actually. :)
