Hey guys i would like to come up with a discussion on our the basic factor of our life that is sleep. We all need minimum about 8 hours to refresh our mind and avoid our body to get overclocked. I have this habbit of sleeping in afternoon, and i wonder how many of us spend time to have a good sleep in afternoon. During the week i dont get to sleep in afternoon because of my work in office. But in weekends i have a nice time sleeping, but the only factor is that it gets difficult to sleep at night. So guys please give your view on this whats the appropriate thing to do? and how you manage your sleep on 8 hours.

I used to sleep a lot as well in the afternoon before but what I've noticed is that whenever I sleep for a long time in the afternoon, I felt my body becomes inactive and lazy. Then I tried to sleep for only an hour and I found that it's enough to kedp me going for the rest of the day. Yes I would still feel drowsy at first during short naps but in the long run it's working well for me.
I'm not sure if it's really good or bad but you must be able to know up to how long you should sleep in the afternoon. You said that you can't sleep well at night whenever you sleep long in the afternoon, then that's the problem because you must not just sleep very long in the afternoon. You must try different period of hours of sleep in the afternoon to find out what's best for you.
You might try stretching a bit after a power nap to keep you awake.

Hi, thanks for the opinion.. I think at the initial stage having a nap for a short while will make drowsy but as days go on and keeping the same thing iam sure it will help me a lot. Thanks for your suggestion.

I don't know if there's any medical or scientific studies that have been done regarding this matter but I don't think it's generally bad to take naps in the afternoon. But like the cliche goes, too much of anything is bad. In my case, when I sleep during the afternoons, it usually lasts for 1-3 hours. The result of course is that my body clock always gets messed up. Maybe a 15 - 30 minute nap will do.

I think that if you have the time then having a nap in the afternoon can be a very healthy thing. I don't think it would be good to sleep for several hours during the afternoon as this would then make it difficult for you to get to sleep during the twilight hours. I like to have the occasional nap in the afternoon myself and when I wake I feel so good and refreshed. I'm sure I even heard on the news some time ago that taking regular naps can be good for your body.
Not everyone has the time or privilege of having a nap so if you are able to you should really enjoy it and do as much of it as you can. When I have slept longer than usual in the afternoon I have definitely found it a task to get to sleep at night. I would rather be out there cycling and catch my nap when I return! Andrew

I can't sleep in the afternoon! When I do, I always get really painful headaches when I wake up. So even if I'm really tired after school, I still have to stay up until it's actually night time. I never sleep in the day time, I can only sleep properly at night. I try to sleep a bit earlier and on weekends, sleep-in during the morning. I wish I could sleep in the day time with no pain. =(

In week days i cannot sleep, because of office work. However, in weekends, yes i do take a nap in the afternoon and then sleep late in the night, this way 8 hours i can manage in weekends, but in weekdays, i dont normally get 8 hours sleep

Like you two, i also get to sleep in the afternoon on Saturday. That's because i have a whole day work on weekdays and a half day work on Saturday.
On Saturday, after i have eaten lunch, i would watch TV for an hour and then sleep for 2 to 3 hours! I feel so energized after that , and it's as if my lack of sleep from the weekdays has been treated .

I think it is not bad for me, since I have very little time to sleep at night, every little chance I have to sleep is good. No matter the time of the day, I always take advantage on those little times. I sleep 6 hours as much everynight so I'm tremendously sleepy always, and I fall asleep immediately when I decide to do it. Short napes don't have any effect in my night sleep.

Personally I think sleeping in the afternoon, is a Good thing as most of the time it helps refresh us, especially if you have already worked your hrs. The main issue though would be if you are sleeping too long to where you cannot sleep at night. But overall as a person gets older there is nothing saying you cannot lay down for an hr. and relax some and catch a few zzz's

Well it is a rather counterproductive to a natural sleeping schedule for sure. One could really take it a step forward and say it would have have long term consequences to say the very least. I am really not sure about that, kind of on the fence about that. However there are some interesting points about how sleeping at any time but night.
Naturally however there are times where it cannot be helped. Like for example, if someone works on a different shift at work, that is going to really be some reason to really sleep in the afternoon. Or naturally a small nap might be something to recharge us when we are ill. Still most of the time, it is really not the best idea to sleep in the afternoon.

Napping in the afternoon is not exactly a bad thing because it enables to get adequate rest, especially when we had a busy morning, and we need the energy for rest of the day. Having 8 hours of sleep is to allow us to recover from the hectic day we had earlier, while not for us to conserve energy to last for the next day. As such, napping in the afternoon is fine so long it's less than an hour.

I like to sleep at afternoon too and, usually, I'm always tired during the afternoon. The reason for this is that I need to wake up everyday during the week at 6:30AM and for me is pretty difficult to sleep until 10:30PM. Usually, I only go to the bed at 12:00PM at least. So, when I have a free afternoon, I take a little nap. It's good, because I feel rest after the sleep and I can do the things better then I would do if I was tired.

Its true that we get freshed up after afternoon's sleep. But after that at night we tend to remain awake till hours sometime. Unlike your schedule i get up at 7:00 go to office and come at night. But i would have surely taken the opportunity of sleeping in afternoon but for a little while.

Hi Prince! You just said you have a habit of sleeping in the afternoon. Again you said you don't get to sleep in the afternoon because of your office work. Sounds contradictory. I doubt either you sleep during your office hours or you are unemployed. Ha! Ha!
Jokes apart. No, I never feel drowsy during my office hours and I won't like to sleep in the afternoon at my office while others are working. But, at the weekends when I have nothing to do I sometimes take a short nap to recharge myself. Lastly, one thing I always make sure is go to bed at night as early as possible so that I have plenty of time to sleep.

I think it depends on the situation. If you have a job that is highly demanding in your position & you are happyly intrested in the job than you will be a busy person & you won't be intrested in even taking a nap & if you are not happy with your job than forget it!!! taking a nap is a part of your job. Overall if you are on a leave than taking a nap is good to energise your body & if you can't help from dozing in the office than I will advise you to sleep early at night. Early to bed & early to rise makes a person healthy, wealthy & wise....:)

Sleeping at noon break is what I usually do. It's refreshing after few minutes of taking a nap. But some of my friends says, it only gives him headache after the short resting period so better not sleep if it is only in a very short time. Well I guess it depends upon the comfort of the person.

I take a nap almost everyday. I am disabled and don't work and get tired very easily. I look forward to naptime. In fact it is almost naptime now. I think it is good to take a nap anytime that you are tired because it energizes your body. I have a bit more energy and think clearer after my naps.

Sleeping is way for the body to repair and refresh itself so the body gives the signal if you want to sleep, but we also have to be careful, excessive sleeping could also signal a medical problem( just my opinion), also different people need different amounts of sleep.

I think we should have a normal sleeping pattern and we should stick to it and i think we should not sleep in the evening until and unless we are deprived of sleep.Sleeping in afternoon can affect the sleeping pattern and we can suffer from sleep loss in the night.

When I was a kid, my parents scold me whenever I don't sleep in the afternoon. As a kid, I wanted to play and play. Now, as an adult, all I want is to sleep in the afternoon but I can't because I'm working. Sleeping makes it bad if you sleep too much. You get lazy like you don't wanna get up from the bed anymore.

Friend some days before I read the same discussion Is it good habit? sleeping in the afternoon and you start the same discussion. Anyway I am giving my opinion yes rest is necessary for life so sleeping for some time like 1 hour or 2 hours is good but more than 2 hours is bad because now work is more and time is less.
