Why Choose the Name "Highlander" for This Story?

Could it be because the Olde English "hAEland" (healer) was the title they given to Lord Jesus before it was replaced by "Christ"?
You remember 'the gift' MacLeod got for being the final surviving immortal: the ability to hear what everyone was thinking (individually if he concentrated). Could that have something to do with focusing the story on a 'Highlander'?
Or does 'Highlander' have some other meaning that inspired the tale of sword-fighting immortals?

When I think of "Highlander", I think of powerful, immortal, almighty, gifted, special and rugged. So maybe they all relate here.

Kind of the same thing no? Where powerful, immortal and rugged/tough and daring are my guesses. lol

But do you think of all that from 'the shows' (the movies, the TV-series ... maybe the book(s)), or is there some earlier legend that feeds the story?

Not in it's entirety but to the imaginative mind yes.

And the High Lands of Scotland, do you think those would inspire some stories of immortality, The Quickening and The Gift? (I might 'Search the Web' for some inspiring images of 'The Highlands of Scotland.')
