If polar ice cap melt would it really flood the world

Think about it: ice actually has more volume than water does. Thats why it's able to float in the water. If the polar ice caps melt, it seems that the sea level might actually decrease, because the volume of the solid water will go down. It's the volume that counts, isn't it? Not the mass or density.

i don't think anything would happen, if you put an icecube in a glass and fill it with water to the top, wait for it to melt, nothing happens

Yes,it is an easy physical phenomenon. If the polar ice completely float on the water, maybe the level will not change when ice melts. However, actually amounts of ice are not floating and they seem like a land at the polar. So if we think like that, it is too late.Let's move! Low-carbon life!!

I wouldn't know. We'll know when it happens. Maybe I'll start packing my things if ever I get the slightest hint that it's melting.

I don't think that the entire world will be flooded, but I do think that the parts of the world that are closest to oceans may see that they have a few more problems in the future. If you think about it, although the ice would melt and take up less space, it would be more fluid that the ice which would mean that it was more of a danger during storms and things like that. There is a lot of ice that floats on the water that doesn't pose too much of a problem right now, but it certainly would if it was melted into water.

Hey, don't say things like that! The "End of the Worlders" will come and get you! Actually that isn't true. Ice has the same weight, therefore it displaces the same amount of water. But nice idea - I bet that got a few "greens" worried for a minute or two!

the only portion of the ice that visible on the water level (sea level) are the portion that will makes the water in a glass (sea water will rise) rises....
