me and my wife's first reaction was OH MY GOODNESS... where did the python came from? we grieve with the parents of course... but we only know a little about the news. then we found out that the python was their pet. WHAT? your pet python killed your child? parenting is a very hard work. you need to be responsible enough and you have to be ready for this. on the other hand having a pet no matter what kind of pet is that you need to be responsible enough too before getting a pet. this is negligence for me, i can not understand why in this happened. here is the link about the news... http://news.yahoo.com/florida-couple-trial-pet-python-kills-child-214942432.html

Oh my God, is that true? I mean, I can't believe that happened! That is really sad and at the same time unbelievable and I can't help but think that those parents were stupid! How can they let that happen to their child? I can imagine that they are feeling so frustrated and angry at their selves but it's their fault. Having a pet is okay, but if you have a dangerous pet, you should know how to take care of it so it won't hurt people. And most importantly, they should know how to take care of their child! My God, what were these people thinking!

We have a dog, a very active dog and I always tell my 4-year old niece not to play with it because it might bite her. But my brother has made sure that our dog has received its rabies shot so that lessens the worries. Still, our dog is playful so we make sure that it does not stay too long inside the house.

believe it or not it is true, it was reported through a 911 call. the parents called 911. it is plain stupidity and irresponsible. having a pet needs attention and so has having a baby. i want to get a dog but as of now i feel that my son is too young yet to have a pet. i will wait for him to turn seven then by then maybe he is ready for a pet. by that time he can take care of the dog already and help me on picking up the dirty things the dog will create. thanks a lot for the response.

That is really horrible.Imagine an innocent child killed by their own pet.I guess to have one, the owner must really be observant and really careful with their pet behavior.I know almost all of us want to have pet of our own, to play with them or just by enjoying watching them. But accident do happens even how careful we are.

i wanted to have a dog, but my wife told me that she will not clean any of the dirty things the dog will create. if i want a dog i should be responsible enough to care for it. so thats the reason why i havent got a dog yet... not because i dont and like to be the one fixing the dirty things he will do but sometimes i work out of towns. i will get a dog if my son is responsible enough to take my place while i am gone. he is 5 now and maybe i will wait till he is seven years of age. thanks a lot for the response

@ stowyk Yeah, your right they are responsible for what had happened to their child. If by accident someone was bitten by your pet dog, you as the owner must pay for the medical expenses incurred by that person. And this is python,so the parents should be held liable.

OMG! What's wrong with this parent, are they retarded or just playing foolish with their child's life. How in the world will a family adopt a Python inside their house to be a pet with their child playing around the home. It is so wrong and mindless, they probably think that python will take care of their child like a nanny will do, look after the kid with full royolty. It is such a tragic for that child having both idiots as parent.

sorry for the late response. i guess parents like this are really retarded. as a parent you have to be sure that no one will harm your child even an insect as small as a mosquito, and now this parents made a python as a pet? this brought anger more after the casey anthony trial. he they dont deserve to be a pet owner and they dont deserve to be a parent either. yes accidents happen but this is negligence. thanks a lot for the response.

I have heard a few other stories like this. I think people are crazy to keep snakes, especially Pythons and other huge snakes,as pets in the first place! People should not have those snakes around when they have children! This is a very good example why not too! It makes me angry when I hear parents who are irresponsible!

i think they need to have a law for this. as you said you heard a few stories like this already, so this is not the first time. still there are people out there who wanted to have wild animals as pets. if not the member of your family this will harm someone in the neighborhood. it also makes me angry when parents are irresponsible. parents should be the one who will protect their children, not getting a pet who will harm their own kid. still very pissed with this news even weeks had passed. thanks a lot for the response.

having python snake as a pet, well i think the parents of that kid was well prepared to hear such news, as with pet like snakes what you can expect. People should be careful in choosing pets, as some animals can never be considered as pets.

i agree with you saying that there are animals that can never be considered as pets. you can not live with them in your house. even you train them they will still be harm than to protect you. i can not still understand that for many animals to choose on why they have to settle for snake. thanks a lot for the response.

This is such a sad thing to have happened. I can't help but feel like it was preventable though, because well, if you have a pet snake, you have to take precautions.

if that sentiment is to be used then, no parent should have a dog (even the best can turn) maybe no horses (I was thrown from one as a child land wrong break your neck?) and so on, maybe we should all stick to nice safe goldfish......but indoor ones heaven forbid we have a pond. you cant understand why it happened because its an accident a truely tragic one maybe they should have been more careful maybe they were as safe as they could be but they have lost their child they should be left to grieve in peace.

true that even the nicest pet can harm you so you need to be more cautious and careful. it is shown on the link that i paste that it was feeding time of the snake already and they did not feed it yet. if you have a pet of course you should be responsible enough on handling it. they are fit to have a goldfish as a pet, and i hope they dont forget feeding it too. thanks a lot for the response.

OMGSH! This is a terrible news. :( poor kid. :( This should serve as a lesson to all those who have not just pythons but every animal in their home to always be on guard, when they have a kid as well. And also be aware of the behavior of the animals.

That's insane! I agree with you about this being neglect, something like this wouldn't be happening if people were keeping track of both the kid and the snake. And if i had a child in my house I don't think I would want a pythone there too, at least until they're older

It is a really heartbreaking accident. Why can't they breed some docile pets? I have ever heard of those kinds of accident due to fierce pets' attack. When such accident will not happen? If one insists on such kinds of pets,he/she should completely be responsible for others' safty!
