When you say "new" how "new" are we talking? A year, two, a few months weeks what? What OS are you running, is it guniune, demo, what? Are you using anti-virous, spywhere etc? Is the computer over heating before shutting down? You didn't give enough information for me to help you. There are many reasons why the laptop would do that. But, until I know the answers to the above questions, I can't help you. Though I'd check the battery and ensure that it's in-tact and can hold a charge. Just simply unplug your laptop and see if it boots at all, if it starts up then the battery is holding some kind of charge. If it doesn't respond at all your battery may be fried which can in turn force your system to protect itself. Also over heating can cause the same reaction. Often to prevent or reduce the risk of a fire, If the computer's internal temp reaches a certain point, the system will turn itself off without warning. This is to help try and protect itself. Reasons for over heating, faulty power suply, faulty battery, poor conditions or certain virouses. So look out for that. Also, if you don't have an active genunine version of windows (or whatever OS) you're using, then the system will randomly shut down after the demo period is over forcing you to have to buy a copy, install and activate within three days of purches. Activation is painless and is usually done in a mater of seconds with an active internet connection. With a clean active copy of windows, you shouldn't have any problems.

Do you have an antivirus program and have you run it recently. It could be an overheating problem. My Toshiba overheats and I have to make sure I turn it off before I go to bed to give it a chance to cool down because it gets hot.

This happens a lot when the battery is failing or losing charge. If you have the laptop on battery only, try plugging in the charging cord and see if this still happens. If it continues to shut down even when plugged into an electrical outlet, then it may be overheating or have other problems.

In most cases, laptops generally shut down instantly when battery runs out(when it is very weak) or when a part of it is already above its maximum temperature level like its board or other components. I believe that it's best for you to send it to experts for a better diagnosis and troubleshooting.
