When we were kids, I used to play with my school mates some physical plays in our school grounds. We played “lusong tinik” , where two would put their fingers up and also their feet to make the jumping block higher, while the others would jump on it. Those who jumped and touched them would replace the two blocker.
We also played dodge ball, where in an “it” would throw a ball at us and the one who will be hit will replace the it.
We would play hide and seek and “patintero” We really would enjoy playing them.
How about you guys, what were your plays when you were still kids?

Hello there,
I used to play with my doll when I'm alone together with some set of tea cups and others. I also remember making dresses for my doll
When I'm with my friends or playmates, we would play "bahay-bahayan" with a lot of cooking involved, I remember my mother bought me a complete set of clay pots and things. I also experienced playing patintero, hide and seek, chinese garter, board games and lots more...even boy games like playing marbles with my brother.
I also remembered me and my brother played treasure hunt, we dug up a hole on an area beside our house, hid our "treasure"(lots of marbles) there and made a map and a landmark so we can easily locate it, I think it was a big old and dried branch of a tree. But the next day, even if we had our map, we were not able to locate and find our "treasure" because my mother cleaned the area and got rid of the branch!
Oh, my childhood memories are those that I love to recall again and again and again...lots of fun and really, a worry-free moments of my life

That was funny of your mother to have cleaned the area and get rid of the branch where your "treasure" was hidden.
At least most of us have happy play times during our childhood , which we can relay to our children and grandchildren in the future.
Now, most children just play with computers and other gadgets , never having the chance of playing happily with others.
Sad, but this is true now.

I guess, she did purposely "cleaned" your treasures, seeing those marbles which she hated you playing.
Maybe it's because those marbles were usually played by boys, as in my times before.

yeah very strange too, sometimes I'm thinking, maybe my mother knew about our "treasure" and intentionally did the "cleaning" so we can get rid of our marbles. You see, she'll get mad at us playing with that marbles all day. I remembered she also threaten us one time that she would boil those marbles and make us swallow them if we don't stop playing
Indeed, our childhood days were very much different from our children's today. It's also happening with my kids, they only get to play with friends during school days. Whenever Fridays come, they tend to be really excited because they can freely play games on the computer...Well, I guess that's how technology changes the world.

Hi Simplyd,
Well, we all played the usual backyard sports and Scatter was a popular game with all the neighborhood. Beyond that, we were always building tree forts and underground forts, exploring in the woods, catching things, etc etc. We didn't get bored ever. Our collective minds never failed to come up with something to do. It did'nt always meet with parental approval but that's only if they found out.

At one point our yard was fenced in and we were not allowed to go outside of the fence. WEll, that didn't work. We spent all our time finding ways to get beyond the fence and usually succeeded. My mother really did not pay a lot of attention to us. We got away with so much stuff.

Usually, our parents would permit us to play in the yard. But then, in the course they are suprised to see, when they come back to look at us, that we weren't where we originally are.
That would sometimes cause an admonishment from them.

That reminds me of my primary school years. I must have enjoyed playing all kinds of games. As I grew older, volley ball became my favorite game, playing with schoolmates, enjoying every evening. We played volley ball on the beaches too during the vacations. Very exciting !

I also played volleybal in my high school days. But it was because i was forced to, since it's part of the curriculum. I am not fond of it, because i was so thin then.
I guess, i am more into hide and seek, catch me if you can and those easier games.
So, do you still play volleyball now? It's a game that's for all ages, i think.

I remember that I used to play a lot with my Barbie, me and my friends used to spend the whole day playing our dolls and we had various different dresses for the Barbies and others cute acessories. We also, used to play with roller skates, I remember that I fall a lot of times trying to do nice moves, something that I wouldn't try anymore.

Yes, my daughter playd with Barbies too.
But during our times, there was no Barbie doll yet. We just played with those cheap dolls, but we also had lots of clothes made for them too. And we compete them like in a beauty contest.
Roller blades ? there were roller skates then, but my parents didn't let us play with them. They are afraid that we could be injured in the process of learning them.

I think hide and seek is the most common play of all children. Kids love doing it , specially under the full moon.

Yes, things were different that they are now with today's kids. We had no Xbox or thousands of tv channels to keep us occupied. We had to be creative and play games like tag, cops and robbers. Remember cops and robbers? It was basically a game where we would chase each other down while on our bikes. As soon as you trapped that person, they went to jail (the porch). Ahh, those were the days.

Those plays of todays are unhealthy. It doesn't make the child move more.
But for our plays of yesteryears, they really make us move a lot, which is a healthy thing! Don't you think so?

The best of mine was "Sock and Wave". Who can throw the shoe at most far distant, will be the winner.

Oh, i know that too and my male cousins play that with a flat stone as the shoe. But usually, it would end after a while , and they would play with us "Catch Me if you Can ", or would go to the fields to play kites.
Such wonderful memories of our childhood!

Yes, we do play hide and seek at night time also. Specially when it's full moon. We would usually do it after our dinner. So, everybody would eat their dinner early and converge outside of our cousin's house.
Patintero would usually be in the late afternoon, when it's not hot anymore.

We used to have a rope, two kids would swing it and then one in the middle would jump without stepping on it.Then we would look for small stones numbering five, play then in patterns where you spread them on the floor, pick one stone throw it up then as it comes down you pick together with the other four on the floor. Then follow the same procedure and pick two stones at a time then one stone and three stones at a time.We also made a big circle by joining hands together by singing songs like 'rice being good' then moving round and round. It was fun playing these games and I still have their memories still in me.

Oh, jumping rope with others! That i played too. But for the 2nd one, we didn't play that. What we have is jackstone.
So you see, those games developed our camaraderie with others, not only does it helped us in the development of our bodies and mind.
Yes, the memories of those enjoyable days of our childhood with friend forever will remain in our memories to cherish!

When I was a kid I seldom go out to play because I don't have lots of playmates. I play with my cousins at home. We play dolls and toys and we play "teacher-teacher". Everyday each one of us take turns on who will be teacher for the day. We make little lessons and make tests also.

Playing when shared with other kids is really something that cannot be forgotten, even if we grow old already. It developed our sense of camaraderie and us as a whole. It will forever be our fond memories.

I remember playing a lot of game involving math with my momr. With my younger sister we used to wonder on our property and beyond and create our own little house out of there was where we ended up. Oh yeah and dress up.. I still like dress up but now I have to pay my own money when I like what I dressed up in

Wow that sounded like you enjoyed playing with your mom and younger sister! For me and my siblings, math plays involves our father. It's his way of making us study without getting bored.
I also have plays with my sister, and it's usually catch me if you can. But usually we would end up quarreling because nobody wants to be the "it".
Like you, we also played "house" in a tree top done by my male cousins. We realyy have fun playing house, complete with food from our mothers' kitchens.

hehe,the topic is interesting.
We also played dodge ball and hide and seek game, and the rules seems like what you said.
We also played slingshots. At that time we were naughty, and often to shot sparrows using the slingshots.
We also played drop-the-handerchief game.

Drop the handkerchief game? I think i don't know that one.
So you see, those games makes us run and interact with out playmates. Thus it exercises our growing bodies.
Sad, that this modern times children are playing in a sedentary way. Their friend is either the computer or those playing gadgets.
