Have you heard of adding salt to the coffee before brewing?

I worked with a wonderful nurse who made the best coffee in our employee break room. She would add the coffee grounds to the basket and then.....she salted the coffee grounds before she started the brewing process. Have you heard of this? The brewed coffee did not have any salty taste?! Why did she do this? What was the purpose?

I have never heard of this before but I bet it is to counter act the acidity.

Her coffee was the best I've ever had so perhaps you are correct. Never, no matter how many cups I had, did I get heartburn from her coffee!

You are quite welcome to eat the egg, if you want to. I will not fight you for it. It might get a little crunchy, though.

I have not heard of this, but I can see that the others are probably right.

I can't explain it other than to say it sharpens the flavour of the coffee. To me, it removes the cloudy taste.
It's the same with apples, a light amount of salt on an apple makes the flavour stand out more. I've heard it's also true of oranges but I haven't tried that one.
