Dumaguete - I am fixated

I have not been to Dumaguete ever in my life.
Since I started working with this office in 2007 - the first place that I wanted to visit was Dumaguete. I tried surfing the net about the place, and I was about to book myself but it did not materialize.
I was able to visit other nice places in the country except Dumaguete. So there, I am officially fixated with Dumaguete.
Early this morning, there was a piso fare promo in Cebu Pacific, and I grabbed the opportunity. I booked myself for Dumaguete in January 2012.
But I will be traveling alone, which means, it should be at the cheapest price. I mean, the adventure should be within my limited budget.
I am wondering if you know of a place where I can stay for two nights with at most 500 pesos a night to stay. Then, if I get to visit Apo Island on a quite cheaper amount? Like I can tag-along a big group.
Though January is still 6 months to go, I wish I could hear some suggestions from you.

you have a great plan. i am from dumaguete and i can help you. or if you would like i could tour you to watch dolphins and do swmming in the sand bar (white sand) in bais city, balinsasayao twin lake where you can do boating and fishing. go to kasaroro falls and in apo island.

That is so nice of you.
The itinerary you have set sounds so fun. And I can't help but be excited.
Will it be ok to ask how much should I prepare for this? For the dolphin watching and sand bar touring in bais?

for dolphin watching and sand bar you need 4-5 thousand, food not included. we need to rent a boat good for one day that would cost around 4 thousand.
i think 10 thousand would be enough but it still depends on how long are you going to stay in dumaguete.
of what i mentioned, that is just a few and there are many other things you can do here.

Ten thousand?!
I am a cheapstake. I want to tag along with a huge group, but that would be impossible right? [em]
I plan to go there on a friday and leave on a Sunday.

You should see Dumaguete, it's a nice city by the sea, you should see Silliman University, a very good State University the Americans started and built in the 1900's. you should not only see and appreciate Dumaguete but if possible, tour the whole Negros Oriental province and visit other places like Tanjay and Bais etc.., been there because I have ancestry that came from Bais, I think it's the only place they made sugar on the Oriental side and all the rest was produced in Negros Occidental, very nice experience

How far is Bais from Dumaguete? I might try going to Bais if time and budget permit.

i have been dumaguete last week since it was the founders day of our alma mater. it was fun reminiscing the days of my college. since january is not much of a tourist season there, there is no difficulty in looking for a place to stay. there are a lot of cheap pension houses near the town and if remember it right, for single airconditioned rooms you can find it for 300 pesos or 250 pesos. i have also seen a pension house that offered as cheap as 180 pesos for a single fan room. you can just walk around the town and the boulevard and the food there is great too. be ready to pack things for pasalubong at the sans rival store. their cakes are a hit. the sans rival cost around 300 pesos
