Nowadays, there is a need for people to multi-task. It would be a plus-plus since multi-tasking is a needed skill.
Well, I feel like multi-tasking tend to jeopardize one's quality of work. I mean, the output would tend to be just so-so, and not quite excellent.
So, my question is, are you one of those who multi-task and how's your work quality?

I multitask at work but it's not like I have a choice. We're required to do emails and voice services *almost* at the same time so I'd have to deal with it or it's job hunting for me again. I think it's best if you focus on one task at a time if you're not really required or if you have time to do all of it but if you're not or you don't have enough time in your hands, you should just opt for multitasking. The output won't have as much quality as having your full attention on it but at least you got the job done.

I guess, sometimes, the end goal would just be keeping the job done regardless of quality or whatever.
They should pay multi-taskers more.

Even though I'm a multi-tasker, I would have to disagree with you. There are jobs that require full focus instead of your divided attention. It will really depend on your job.

Sometimes, multitasking can be a good thing, but I don't think that this is always the case. Sometimes, I feel as though it can really be dangerous to do so, especially when at work. At home, it's one thing, and it can be a good thing. It's when doing it at work, when it becomes a little tricky.

At home, everyone, esp. if you are married, is expected to multi-task.
At work, sometimes, it can be risky.

I learn to do a task well before I multi task while doing it. If it's something I could do almost with my eyes closed, then I could do it while doing other things. I think with that kind of training it wouldn't jeopardize your quality of work. Some people out there just can't multi task though. It's all about the person I think.

I have to agree - there are people who can not multi-task.
I guess, since I am working in a team doing secretariat stuff, there's a need for us to multi-task, I just hate the fact that others don't multi-task much.

I think we have to in nowadays. The company just need the multi-handed people because they want to reduce the cost. But I also think that multi-task can reduce the quality of the job because this will divide our energy and attention. So I always try to avoid this situation.I always try to divide the multi-task separately into many small tasks and try to finish them one by one.but sometimes, this is not possible.

I so agree with you.
I write using my left hand but some of the stuff I do seem to be right-hand led.

I have seen people multi-tasking in different work place. One place I was quite impressed with was in a hotel where I was staying during one of my trips overseas. I had a question, and so I phoned the reception staff. I asked her about that, and in a few minutes she called back and got the information I needed. After a while, I had another question, and just had to phone again. After a while, a lady called back and provided me the answer. I was suprised that it was the same lady. When I went downstairs for dinner, she greeted me and said it was she who was helping me, and she said she was a multi-tasking staff of the hotel. That was really impressive !

Is eating and typing at the same time in the same category because I am doing it right now, just kidding. I think multi tasking is good. It keeps you on your toes but there are instances where it becomes too much. I'm definitely a multitasker but I make sure that I don't put too much on my plate, that way my job is not compromised.

Women are generally more predisposed to multi-tasking, so I've read. The genes therefore probably have more to do with how well you can cope with doing more than two things at the same time, though everyone is quite at liberty to be on the safe side by doing things one at a time in order to preserve work quality and more importantly not incurring anyone's wrath.

You did not clarify your point very well. I do not know if you mean multi-tasking that is ( using a blackberry phone, smartphone or using a laptop, ipad, ipod etc )
anyway, multi-tasking has been made easier thanks to the use of many mobile devices and application.

As much as possible, I will not try to multitask. As you have mentioned, it decreases the quality of the work done because our attention and focus is divided among the different work that we do. So, if I can finish the jobs on time without multitasking, I will definitely not do multitasking. But there are times that you need to multitask, especially if you need outputs. I say, multitasking is an option depending on the necessary output and desired results. If the goal prioritizes volume of work and amount of output, I think multitasking is a great option to carry on the goals. If the work entails quality and efficiency, I'd go for not multitasking as doing so will surely affect the quality and the lack of total focus will surely nudge the efficiency of the process of doing work.
