Asthma attacked again the other night. My throat was creating a sound like a cat meowing constantly. It was hard for me to breathe due to the colds and cough that triggered my asthma. My suspicion is that it started when my nose started to itch because of the paint smell and inhaled dust when I cleaned. And so, the difficulty with breath made me surf the net on how to feel better since I ran out of medicine for my nebulizer.
There was coffee on the rescue! It is proven to be the best first aid for asthma. Wow, I immediately felt better indeed coz the coffee helps open the bronchial tubes. A half cup of strong coffee saved me from the severe difficulty in breathing! Thank God for coffee!

Actually, I always do have palpitation every time i drink coffee. I feel like shaking and nervous. I don't know what's the explanation for that but I'm certain that it only happens after I drink coffee. ;( But, during asthma attacks, I turn to it to feel better.

Hi there! Wow, this is a new thing for me to learn. Thank you for this factoid. :)
I, on the other hand, eat or drink oatmeal when I had my latest asthma attacks. Thee antihistamine properties of oatmeal helps arrest an allergy-triggered asthma. :) I discovered that oatmeal was an antihistamine when I read an Aveeno itch-relief package. The Aveeno line of products are all based on concentrated oatmeal compounds, and that's where I took my home remedy.
I think the stimulant component of caffeine acts like adrenaline to your bronchial tubes, as you explained.
I wonder if Coffee + Oatmeal would do wonders?

i think this is good news for adults who have asthma but not for children. there are adults who loves coffee so this is good when they are being attacked by asthma. but i don't think you will give coffee to children? anyway, strong blend of coffee is a good first aid but this is not the cure, right?

Hello, yes it's not advisable to kids. Yes, it's not the cure, it's only good for first aid. ;)

Just reading about your ordeal, was very terrifying.I'm glad that you're ok, a hope you don't experience that type of scare again.
Also - I had no idea coffee was a good remedy for asthma.Does any warm liquid work, or does it specifically have to be coffee?

Hi Radiuz! Yes, it's specifically coffee. It's because it contains caffeine which helps dilate bronchial tubes. When asthma attacks, it simply helps ease the difficulty in breathing. I don't know how it works but it just made me feel better. I think it opens up or widens the bronchial tube so the oxygen could pass through it to the lungs.
I'm all okay now and I'm praying that asthma attacks me no more.

I and all of the members of my family are very lucky because of the fact that none of us suffer from asthma. However, we do all tend to suffer a lot with seasonal allergies and they are really bad here because we tend to have a lot of pollens and mold in the air where we live.
You are right that coffee is a great thing to help us with our blocked airways. The reason that it works so well is because of the fact that it is hot so it will open us up and it is also a stimulant.

Then I would suggest you to boil yellow ginger and drink it. It will help. I hate ginger too but in times like this, survival and the wanting of feeling better will reign. Let's do it. :)

In asthma patient has brochoconstriction so relief your system you have to dilate your bronchus, hot drink always dilated your bronchus like in your case. According to me if you drink tea on regular basis then its defiantly work and helps to decrease your symptom because tea contain tannin .
Tannin is brocho dilator so its always help to asthmatic patient and asthma is very dangerous condition in cold because like opposites hot makes dilate to bronchus and cold makes it constrict so try to hot drink specially tea it will help you ..

I just knew it from you. Well, I had asthma attack last month but only mild. My breath just whistle. I can still breath. If I had known I should have drunk coffee the night I had it. I only bought meds for the nebulizer the next morning. Then went to the doctor late in the morning.

Oh, it's good you came over my post. I can assure you that coffee will help in times like this. Make sure that you don't put sugar. Just black coffee, make it strong and only a half cup of it. Take sips till you feel better. God bless!

Yes coffee can be good for helping to reduce an asthma attack. I've also heard that lots of caffeine can open up the lungs thus helping with reducing the severity of an asthma attack.
