Has anyone here ever travelled in Vietnam and/or Cambodia?

I am planning a trip there at the moment, for next year, and since none of my friends have been there, I would be very interested in hearing what you thought if you did go, what you liked and didn't like, and so on. I am mostly going for historical sights and also to at least one resort in Vietnam, I think.

I haven't traveled to Vietnam but I did go to Cambodia a few years ago. Unfortunately, I did not get to spend as much time as I would like to go sightseeing (I went to visit family whom I've never met before so it was an interesting experience). I only spent one week visiting the historical sights though which was great. If you do go to Cambodia, definitely visit Angkor Wat which is a part of the Angkor Archaeological Park. There are so many ancient temples to see. While I wouldn't say that I didn't like it I would say that shopping was a new experience for me. I'm not used to the open air markets and all the haggling going on. Just beware that some of these vendors might try to swindle you and charge you a bit more because you are a foreigner. Also, beware of the area where they sell the meats and poultry (the smell...). I don't think you'd have to worry about anything else if you're just sticking with the cities.

My colleague has traveled to Cambodia. It was last winter when it was cold here in our place. He seemed to have enjoyed himself there. From him, I got to know that it is cheap there and the people there are nice. So you may give it a try if you wish to travel there. Good luck, puccagirl.

That sounds excellent! I like places where prices are okay and people like tourists, so that sounds like a place for me. Thanks for your reply! :)

I haven't yet been to either Vietnam or Cambodia but I hope to in the future. I chatted to some Dutch people that really loved their trip there. I would love to see the Angkor Wat and some of Vietnam's beaches. Good luck with planning your trip for next year.

I have been to Cambodia one time, and I was certainly very impressed with the capital city Phnom Phen. This is a historical city. I very much enjoyed going around in the city, the downtown core. I wanted to go to Angor Wat, known as one of the largest Pagodas in the Buddhist world. But, didn't have the time. I look forward to go to Angor Wat next time. Have a nice visit to Cambodia.

Hi puccagirl, I have also plan to visit Vietnam and Cambodia. These two countries have cultural heritage. Once these two countries were Indian colony. Buddhism and Hinduism flourished there from India. There you can see many ancient Buddhist and Hindu Temples. These two countries also are the land of Elephants. Natural beauty of these two countries attract the tourists.

if your plannin to go to Vietnam, first choice between Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon). Hanoi is the capital which is north of Vietnam. It is near the Halong Bay, the most popular destination for breathtaking sightseeing of limestone islets. For Ho Chi Minh, is more of the historical place of the Vietnam War and near the Mekong River which is great for a cruise.
