Hello everyone!
I am from Slovakia. In my county schools make a big effort to make students and pupils to read a books. So the schools think up compulsory reading. They assigned some book to read and we have to read it and make referat about that book. Then during the lessons we are discussing it, teacher ask us questions about the plot, characters. Do you have this system in your country?
I not want to say that this system is bad, but some books ( the most of them ), whitch school assigned us, is so boring. I don't know why the school don't give to us some better books. (Yea I know that judge book if is good or bad is subjective opinion, but read so old and boring books such as Antigona, or some books from the famous dead Slovakia writer(this books are in Slovakia language, but It is harder understand them than English text :))).
As a result was when I was younger I don't read a book, because i was so bored and sick of this boring books. I didin't believe that the books can be interesting and funny. Fortunately I find the way to the books again recently, and I love them again.
What's your opinion about compulsory reading?
I think it is mad to force somebody read something that he don't like. It's similarly as you force somebody to watch the film or listen music that somebody don't like.
(Sorry for long text :) )

Yes, we do have compulsory reading and submit book reports. In some classes, we were assigned some books and some we get to choose our own. The compulsory readings were helpful to me because it widened my interests. There were books that I would not have chosen to read but later learned to love.
