Goodbye, PC. Now what?

I find that slowly, technology is stealing my life. So much that, in fact, I can't find anything else to do besides sitting on my computer browsing the web. Seriously, I can't even imagine life without a computer by my side. I think that's terrible. :(
So imagine the following situation. Your computer is gone. Don't ask why, it just is. You don't own another one, nor do you own a mobile phone or any other type of device that lets you connect to the Internet. Your only option is to get up from your comfortable 100$ spinning chair and *GASP* DO SOMETHING ELSE?!?
Dramatic beyond belief. Anyway, the question is - what do you do when you're not on the computer? Books, music, what do you enjoy doing when you're not busy ruining your eyesight progressively?
Your move.

Read, watch television, listen to or make music, take a walk, take a class, pick up a telephone and have an actual conversation, go dancing or to a movie, take a drive - live life!

I like your answer, but watching TV? Isn't that just as bad as sitting on the computer? Before I got my first PC, I used to watch it all day long, and it was just as addicting.

Anything can be addictive if you let it. I normally watch between 5 - 10 hr of tv per week. I record the shows I enjoy (because my work hours are in the evening when they are on) and then I watch them after I get home or the next day.
It is all about balance in your life and developing new interests so that you do not have one single interest that becomes "all absorbing".

At the moment I am neglecting so many of my other activities all on account of my internet world. But I would not want my pc to conk out. I will make a determined effort to get over this addiction and attend to my other chores. Fine then. I am closing the pc. I have a lot of work to do. Bye for now!

I am back after one hour. I went down and put some law and order in our bedroom which was in shambles. That is just the beginning. Slow and steady wins the race!

Hi there Horned Demon!
Well, some may think it's possible, knowing that humans have existed for centuries without the computer but we have learned to adapt to the changes brought by technology. It would be very hard for me to not be able to go online even though it's possible, and I know that I can survive. It would just make things hard. I communicate with my loved ones who live far away from me, share pictures with them, find help with my homework and research through internet. Losing connection to the web will just make things harder and more expensive.

So true! It's comforting to know that while the PC is extremely addicting, it can also be very useful, so you won't always feel you're wasting your time on it.

The problem is that this becomes harder and harder to achieve for me, ha ha. But I try. :)

I haven't really thought about that but if this were to happen, I guess I'd be listening to music or window shop on malls. If this won't satisfy me, I'd ride my motorcycle and just go anywhere just to get rid of the boredom and hope that I won't get any withdrawal syndrome from being away from my computer.

You could always replace "window shopping" with "shoplifting"! :D

Hello HornedDemoN,
For most people their computer is part of your life they are so attached to it that when it's broking or something happens to it they feel so hopeless and bored. If my computer was gone I'd find other things to do like listening to radio, hanging out with friends, talking on the phone, reading books or traveling to places. The computer has made so many people become lazy.

Yes, Judy, I like traveling too, because it really does help to forget about PCs, internet etc for a while. The only problem is that trips cost money, but I guess it's worth it, if you do it occasionally.

Computers can be addictive if you let yourself fall from it...(I already fall from it..hehe) but I put some limitation in using this technology by diverting myself doing some DIY things...And I only use my computer for my research...How bout give yourself a time in thinking TWO things of why are we using this computer and how it affects our life while seating on your spinning chair of yours... You should always think the uses of it not the computer uses you... so think about it..
Computer for me is an optional tool for an easy busy life and also to make us a lazy person to do things which required a physical effort...
Live a Healthy lifestyle!!!
