Penny Phone vs. Smart Phone

I have an old phone from US Cellular that in my personal opinion is terrible. I also have a Zune HD which allows me to store all of my media and search the web. My cell phone bill is surprisingly cheap, so I was wondering if it was ever reasonable to sell my Zune and just buy a Smartphone because of the high monthly prices of data storage. What do you think?
