Oh yes! This is such a good thing Bon. All the rubbish in your lungs is coming up and it's one of the best things that can happen. Your lungs are healing. It doesn't happen for everyone so you are one of the lucky ones. That's all the junk the smoking put in your lungs. I still haven't regained proper circulation in my left foot and that's not such a good thing. I hope you continue to heal from the smoking. Mo realise how much damage they are doing to themselves till it's too late. I'm so proud of you for quitting.

That should be... Most smokers don't realise how much damage...

I had people around that have quit and they seem to be forever coughing and bringing up flem and stuff. Goes on for quite awhile too. Its normal. I would think that someone would write a book about what to expect after you quit the habit of smoking. You into it?

seems ive heard of some books and quit routines that point that out. i was just wondering how true it is. not having quit very long before at all and not being close to anyone that has.

When my first husband went into a nursing home it was smoke free. That is exactly what happened to him. Your lungs are trying to get clean. He said he wished he had done it years ago. Feel better friend. Be proud of yourself for quitting.

That is very good. Maybe while in the hospital you can finish the job of quitting. You will have more money to spend and feel better as well.

I never knew about this. But it makes me understand why that my sister-in-law had difficulty in quitting. If after quitting for a while she started to choke, then I could understand that it was more then an addiction.

I hope so. I do wish the stop smoking companies would put that information out so people would know that it is common and it is not just in their head.

Thats a common side effect of quitting. They say that when you stop smoking that our lungs start cleaning themselves. So all that yuk you're experiencing is mucus coming out of you. That will happen for awhile. I know that when I stop I will experience the same thing.

I've heard of this, that your lungs can begin to gradually recover once you stop smoking by expelling the crud that's built up while you had the habit..and that it can take a while for them to expel it all...good luck!

Heyya bunnybon! I think you are going through your lungs starting to clean themselves out. I read alot of the same things that HWG read and she is right on the money. Congrats on your achievement. It is a tough habit to kick.

I hate to say it, but it is not a cold. When I quit, I had the same thing and it lasted quite a long time. However, it is good that you are couching it up. I know, it is gross, but think of all that junk getting out of your lungs.

I'm not sure. Luckily I've never started smoking since it is so hard to quit for those that have smoked. My husband quit smoking before but started back up and so did my step-dad but they never told me that but it doesn't mean it didn't and they just didn't talk about it.

dear bunnybon congrats to you on quitting smoking. I know how hard this was for you and I am really proud you accomplished this. Guess its normal that this stuff comes up now but its out of the system now. I am sure you will be doing fine in a few days when your surgery is scheduled. Thinking of you for sure

it is a common symptom of nicotine withdrawal as is food consumption in great ammounts. it will come and go for sometime. then it will stop. be patient and everything will go well.
