I Did Not Make It!

Today was our grocery day. I went to the supermarket with my husband and tried to buy everything we need under a certain budget. But the frustrating part is, we did not make it. It was over our budget by a hundred pesos more.
It wasn't like this last week coz I managed to budget everything. I think it's because of the necessities that we really need to buy or merely because my husband was there and he got things that I was not aware of the price. LOL. :)
Did you experience anything like this on your shopping? In what instances did you think that you were just shopping over your budget?

OH I never shop with my husband. He drives me nuts. LOL I don't even like for him to do any shopping. Men just usually are not as good as women with bargans, coupons, etc. I find my husband also brings home junk and even he doesn't finish it and it spoils. I really hate it when food is wasted like that and I even feel guilty.
I say leave your husband at home, and add up the cost of your groceries as you pick up each item. Keep a running tally of what everything costs. Best wishes to you

LOL! Your suggestion will make my husband jump and shout for joy! Haha! I ask him to come with me since I can't bring everything back home. BUT now I've learned. I'll keep monitoring what my husband puts in the shopping cart! Thanks for your suggestions!

When I shop I do have a shopping list to make sure I only bought the necessary things and bring the necessary amount. When you go to supermarket go directly what in your list or else you'll be tempted.
Next time dont spend too much.

I agree but you know, sometimes there are necessary things that are just forgotten to be noted on the list. We may have over-budgeted today but trust me, all are necessary for a week to survive. I've learned anyways.

I have experienced this once or twice, it's really embarrassing for me, getting a lot of stuff and then just setting them aside later after finding out that I can't afford all of it.
Prices of things now are really soaring. Just last week, we went to shop in a supermarket and just got a few items, and to my surprise, it already amounted to 700 pesos. I was thinking it would just be somewhere between 400-500.
I wonder what a thousand pesos could buy next year or the year after that.

I think that explains all! I remember my mom telling me when I was with her to the market, she said that when she was in her teenage years, she was the one going to the market to buy their needs. In one hundred pesos, she could fill a "bayong" with a lot of every kinds of fruits and vegetables plus all kinds of meat!
I really do wonder too, what could a thousand pesos buy in the near future. *Sigh*

i cannot remember when was the last time this shortage shopping happened to me. but most of the time, we only shop within our budget. we usually bring a list of items to be bought so we don't have to bother if we will not make it.

Yeah, I did experience this on one of my shopping. I am always aware when I am out of budget the minute I'll see the prices of the things I am picking especially when the prices are getting high. Sometimes its really hard to stick on you budget especially if the fact is that the price of the thing which is very important and that you will really need it is having a price increase. Hence us consumers will be greatly affected since our budget will not be follow again.

to the same shop depending on what my budget.
my husband takes coupons from the site where he works.
many times there are cases where prices do not match and there is a gap but this does not leave us and curves and budget bills.
You're not alone quietly.
nice day!

I am glad that you had the money on-hand to cover the extra expenses. I remember when one of my friends was just starting out, and she and her boyfriend were living together. They went grocery shopping, and she was very careful to stick to their budget, but he kept trying to buy things that they didn't need and couldn't afford. She kept explaining to him why they couldn't get this or that, but apparently he either chose to ignore her or chose not to understand, because it seems that he put things into their shopping cart when she wasn't looking. When they got to the cash register and she saw the total, she realized she didn't have enough money to pay for it but couldn't understand why until she saw some things that the boyfriend had put into the cart without her knowledge. She called me up and was in tears about it, because she was so embarrassed by the situation, especially since she had to ask the cashier to take the items off the bill and put them back while the rest of the people in line watched and waited.

Oh, that's really embarrassing. I hope that your friend was just okay and the boyfriend will have to learn his lesson. He has to listen so to avoid any embarrassment. ;(

My grocery day is Saturday and I am trying so hard not to go over our budget. There have been times when I go over budget, but it is usually by a few cents. I go shopping every week, but I plan the shopping budget for the entire month. When I go over budget one week I compensate by spending less the next week to balance it out. I also have a writing board where we write things down we need throughout the week and when it comes to shopping if something is not on the list it does not get bought.

One month budget! That's kind of scary for me. We buy our needs weekly especially our food. I think I'll have to do that too, write down things and all. ;)

I do believe we all have been there over budget at grocery store. I had to do that many of times when my children weere younger. I had to put items back because we did not have the cash for them. It made my childern upset but we got through it together. They are better at handling money and more careful with it now compared to other teenagers and people they meet in college. So it did help them learn a lesson along the way.
Do not feel bad. It has happen to all us at one time or another.
Thanks Unique16

I really don't shop ate the grocery every month because I don't have a family yet. i just bought everything I need in a small store near my place. But in times of my seldom grocery stuff I make sure I know all the prices before it will be inside my basket, not to be short.

There's a limit to anything! First of all there's your income. You can't spend more than this. With this you have to keep your monthly live rolling. So, a good bookkeeper knows what to do and divide it in the equal parts of nesessities. What I mean is, keep strict budgets!

I had a similar experience just two days ago. The grocery bill was really high, so unexpected. Even while the cashier was scanning our items, we kept our eyes on the monitor. But in those instance, we managed to get or answer from our mom. She was merely buying ahead for an occasion later this week. No wonder. But it was a good experience, later in life, it would help me do grocery shopping wisely.

Everytime I walk in the grocery store I'm over my budget! We all have a budget...but we can never stay within it...why!! It's the price of goods going up and our paycheck is going down..I would put items in my cart, and while I'm in line to check out I would question myself, do I realy need this? You know what happens next!

It did happened to me on some occasion when I would go on buying gifts for family and friends I would always surpass my budget!LOL But yeah prices of everything, be it grocery or luxurious things are so up these days that our budget has to be tight. And sometimes it's not a surprise if we cross it because it's not always about just buying what is essential or minimal necessities sometimes one wants to buy somethings just out of interest or for pleasure..hehehe

I think it's a global phenomenon about the price-hike of just about everything in the stores yet income is not increasing. :(

Hello ronadelle,
I don't do that as me and my wife both are super misers and don't go out of our budget ever.Thats the reason we don't go to shopping unless when it is very necessary. It happens when we see things we like to buy those and certainly our budget gets effected.
