Enjoying or Saving?

I like to travel and I think a lot of other people also dream of visiting other places. but traveling for pleasure is expensive. Airplane tickets plus accommodation, tours and food. If you sum up these costs it could make you think twice about traveling.
Should I rather save my money and invest it for business or should I enjoy and treat my self for a vacation? If I think long-term then the 1st option seems appropriate but who wouldn't want to enjoy right. I dont want to enjoy only after retirement. Life is short and we must live it. Who knows if I'm still alive tomorrow. But if I do live long and splurge a lot today then my future can be miserable.
What would you do if you have money to spare? Why are there so many choices and questions in life that aren't easily answered?

I divide my savings in two parts. One part of my savings I keep for the future or for emergencies and the other part I spend on travelling. It would be tempting to spend all of my savings on travelling, because I really love travelling, but I think it is too risky. I am trying to save up for a trip to the UK and Ireland at the moment. It will take a while to get enough money for that, but I think that I will be able to achieve my goal one day.

Actually I don't have a lot extra money. I am able to save up for both things, but it usually takes me several years to save up for the next trip, because I only save up a small amount for travelling every month. If I spent all of my savings on travelling I would be able to save up for my trips much faster, but I prefer to keep some savings for emergencies as well. If my husband lose his job or if we need to replace something in the house we need money, so I would be afraid to spend it all on a trip.

If I had money to "spare" then I would consider a short trip prior to starting a business. This would allow me to relax a bit before I plunge in to a business. Starting a business will mean a great deal of effort for one to achieve some success. In order to thrive a business it will be a long while before one can go on a vacation. Therefore, this is what I would do if I did have money to spare.

I love travel and covered quite a bit mainly taking package tours. But this has been possible because we saved wisely. One needs to have the saving habit right from the first day one gets employed.

I love to travel too, I think i'd do a little bit of both... enjoying while saving. You can travel to places near anyway which doesn't require so much spending. Before traveling to far away places people should first explore their place, a country is big anyway. When you still have money, travel and enjoy, but never forget to save and have a limit for your expenses..

Yes, you are right there's nothing free today if you want to enjoy life.So you have to spend something if you want enjoyment. But that could be arrange too. You have to save first the money that you will be spending. You have to think also that once you travel there is a possibility that you may over spend. Aside from the fare you may be tempted to buy things in the place where you've been either as a souvenir or presents for friends back home. In case you do travel set a limit to your spending and take those travel promo tours, I'm sure you can save a bit.

I like traveling also and I have dream of traveling all over the world. But i didn't go to any country due to no time and no money for me. So I will travel someplace near to the city we living. It will no take many time and spending.
You can adjust your planning, one travel one year.I will choose a reasonable trip to have a try.I think hiking trail may be your best choice if you have no enough money.

Now travelling is gettin cheaper compared 5yrs way way back. Before if you wanna travel you need a travel agency to go to any tourist destination. Now you only need an internet access to monitor and avail all the promo for airfares and hotel accomodations. It cuts two-thirds (2/3) of the travel budget. 5yrs ago i can travel one destination a year to nearby countries but now i can travel every month on the full all-in budget of US$400. The usual backpackers are only around European countries but now they have reach asia. Thus i can say, u can travel on low budget as well as save-up the remaining. c",)

Traveling is my top hobby to I save up to go off to different countries. I am an independent traveler and I used to be a backpacker. I have traveled to more than fifty different countries in the world. If I have money to spare I use it to go off traveling then I get special memories. This year I traveled to Colombia, last year I went to Canada and the year before I went to South Africa. I buy a flight then save more money. go to around five different places on each trip. I stay in locally owned guest houses and when I get the chance unusual accommodation. Budget traveling is possible and it need not to really expensive.

Hi maximax8
Wow! I wish I can do as much traveling as you did. Unfortunately acquiring visas to some countries require a lot of money. Filipinos don't get tourist visas to some countries without a bank account that shows that they have a lot of money. and I can't blame the embassies for implementing this policy. a lot of my country men leave my country as a tourist and then stay in other countries illegally.
Hi pramod123
I would love to travel my own country too. I plan to visit some places next year. Traveling by train is not an option in my country. Only a few provinces have access to trains and the most popular ones are available only in the city.

You need a balance of both, saving and spending. I try to save a certain amount every month that I can't touch no matte what. That is my retirement money. It isn't a lot but it starts to add up over time. I just started saving money for my retirement 3 years ago and I already have $2100. in that account.
I love to travel too. Just a couple months ago my daughter and I drove for 24 hours to Las Vegas. We took a week off of work and went on our holiday. I used to always fly where ever I went as it was a lot faster but since I have problems with my inner ears and eardrums I can no longer fly. The last time I was on a plane was 2 years ago and I blew little pin holes in my eardrums. I had blood dripping down my neck by the time we got off the plane. It was the most painfull thing I have ever experienced.
I went straight to the hospital and found out I blew holes in my ears from the pressure. They gave me drops and in the end it took 6 months for my ears to heal. It was very hurtful. I had ear aches for 6 months and to be honest I still have some pain in my ears.
I can no longer fly anywhere, advice from my doctor, so I have to drive where ever I want to go now. And drive I do. I bought myself a brand new little car in February.. a Hyundia Accent 2 door with a hatchback. I get 65 miles to the gallon on the highway. Since February I have put on over 18,000 KM, which I think, is about 11,000 miles.
I have driven to Winnipeg 3 times, at 3000 KM round trip, and I have gone to Las Vegas once at 6,000 Km round trip. Right there is 15,000 KM and then I go for drives on the weekends to the mountains which isn't far from me, less than an hour drive.
I put aside a certain amount each month for trips, as well as my regular savings for my retirement. I am self employed and if I want to make more money for a special trip I just work some extras for my clients and they pay me more.
I have been earning online for some time now and I just figured out that I am going to save all my online earnings for a trip. I figure I am earning about $1500 a year from surveys and mylot so I am going to leave that money, from now on, in my paypal account instead of cashing it out to my bank account. I have $126 so far, since thinking this, just the last few weeks.
Cheers and happy mylotting my friend,
Chris

For me, If I had any spare money & didn't have any bills looming over my head, I would definitely start putting money towards a holiday...I would probably split the money evenly between investing for a business & a vacation.

I also like to travel but age and health problem prevents it. Also huge money is required to go. Now a days traveling is expensive and no good hotels , foods etc. So no one like me will like going in a tour

It would be such a pleasure if I could spare a money for travel or enjoyment. Since I have a Family and a kid, my first priority is always putting all my extra money into savings for my son's future. How I wish I could enjoy going to places that I want to visit or getting the things that I want but my wife and I has this unwritten agreement that all the extra money from our income should be invested to something important. I guess if I get rich from all my online activity, it would be a joy to treat my family to something worth enjoying.

Life itself is not that simple. It's a path, where every moment one reaches a crossing. Which means! One has to make a decision, left, right, or carry on. And that's it, try to find the best answer at that moment. It's up to you, you have to create your on path.

Life is not simple and people makes it difficult. Today , how can we believe strangers? So Many problems during travel or anything that we do.Every one is duplicate and man is making best use of the word "duplicate"

Hi,ddaguno,glad to communicate with you.
I think you worry too much. Saving is a must thing for the rest of our long life. overspending will result in misery. Everyone should make a budget for living necessity-food,clothes and others. Travelling as an interest of yours, you may budget for it as affordable as possible.
Making a good budget can let you get rid of anxiety.

Yes, good budgeting can get rid of anxiety but it is easier to plan your budget than actually following it. emergencies and other things come along that make you spend more than what you have budgeted. and since travel money is not really a necessity it usually is the one that is spent when an unexpected expense comes

If I have money to spare, I will spend it on travelling. This is after factoring in the cost of courses, savings, payment of bills, etc.
