How do people make money on ebay?

I see people giving free postage and low prices. Yet, they pay a ton of money to send the package. The items are not cheap. Think of the people sending items to the USA. That is costly and the item did not cost much, either. I see this internationally and in the USA. How can people afford it and still make a profit? I know some people use the postage meters at their place of employment, and it costs them nothing. I know people steal. What am I missing?

First you have to have a product with demand, and you need to develop a strong understanding of fair prices in that market. Then develop a good rep as fair and fast as a seller.

Everyone wants free shipping, but shipping is so expensive that I wonder how they come out ahead.

I am unsure how some people can make any money, as just like you i see people selling things far to cheap on there as well.I do think that when people first start up selling on Ebay they sell as many things as they can, so that they get a good reputation and that means more sales in the long run.I do think that there are a lot of people out there that tend to make a loss, but at that time perhaps they just need the money no matter how small to pay for things that they need.

you certainly do not make money on ebay stock! ebay has a lot of people selling their own personal assets. i would doubt that for most people it would be more than a source of extra income.
