Hand luggage only?

If you flew off on a plane could you manage with hand luggage only? I think that on a trip to a tropical country I would need to take suncream. Sadly liquids are not allowed in hand luggage nowadays. I can manage to take few clothes but again I need a liquid which is hand wash for clothing. Could you manage to go on a two week vacation by plane with just hand luggage? Which things do you take are your essentials on a trip? Do you need to take any liquids?

I always prefer to travel light, and I have tried to travel with nothing but handluggage. I was gone for one week and it was during the summermonths so I didn't need a lot clothes. I just packed the most important things like my toiletries, some extra clothes, my camera, my guidebooks, my notebooks and my pens and a couple of other things. I had a great week and I didn't miss anything. I think that I would also be able to spend two weeks with nothing but handluggage if I was travelling in the summer months. In the winter season I need more clothes, and it would probably be difficult to travel without a suitcase.

It would depends on where I was going and for how long, but my main problem would be that I would have to leave my camera rucksack at home. Or at least parts of my camera equipment, I usually drag quite a few lenses and some other stuff along. So for a two weeks vacation I'd get the camera equipment + plus some underwear and tooth brush etc in the camera rucksack, which would mean the same clothes for a bit too long :-)

Not unless I am visiting my parents. I will usually need quite a few things. I try to travel light but with only hand luggage...in my case, seems impossible unless I am visiting my parents and I can share most of my sister's clothes too..lol

With the "pay for everything over hand luggage" restrictions that are either common or getting that way,it has become a challenge to pack light for a trip anywhere.."Road Warriors",Business people who are continually travelling, have taken it up and there are various sites on recommendations on how best to maximise your minimum space allowed..luggage makers are playing ball, with lighter frames and optimum space inside..with budget airlines allowing you to bring along a coat on top of your measly allowance, some enterprising folks have created "coats" with surprisingly BIG pockets allowing room for a few extra (preferably squishy!) clothing items.. you can bring them to the check in desk fully loaded (some have convenient carry straps built in) and if/when challenged about your extra "luggage",you can then unfold and put on your "Coat".. Hotel sized complimentary toiletries do fine for short trips and fit in those little baggies..If I needed handwash detergent,I'd just pick some up at the other end..no need for the hassle of getting it through security..I can get by without most liquids..those little travel sized antiperspirants are handy,or a small roll on one works too..

well whats good about in Manila is we have almost all the toiletries packed in sachets and so are the sunscreen lotions thus it wont be a problem putting them in the hand carry laggage. Also being a frequent traveller to around asia which is warm and tropical...i can be able to pack my clothes with light materials that can put a weeks clothing in hand carry luggage which i can laundry to use on the another week c",) for other things u can buy on a convenience store on your travel destination.

There's no limit to the experience you could take with you if you have a lot of money. I wouldn't need luggage at all if I have a lot of money to go for this trip. However, we all know that out funds are limited, but still you could well enjoy the sites and sounds without bringing too many things. For one thing, sunblock is common in any country, therefore if you should need one, why don't you just buy? All other liquids could be bought at the local grocery as well. I did go for about 2 weeks vacation with just hand-carried luggage. It was amazing and it's better if you are not worrying about what you need to bring and such. As for what to bring. I usually just bring essentials like white shirt, casual wears that are light and don't need ironing. Have a great MyLot experience!

I'm sure I could survive with hand luggage only quite easily. A few clothes are all you really need as it's easy to wash them. Things like sun cream and washing liquid, if you can't decant them into 100ml bottles, can easily be bought at the airport. They'll cost more than in the shops, but that's the trade off for taking hand luggage only.

Ha ha, the only liquids I would need I would think would be makeup - like foundation, which usually comes in a container of 3 oz or less, so as long as it's in a baggie you can take it on carry on. I guess if I was going somewhere tropical, where it's warm, I could probably actually do it - I would wear a lot of layers to the air port (lol) and bring shorts, tank tops, and a swim suit - which is a lot easier than going somewhere COLD for 2 weeks (jeans and hoodies and coats take up a lot of space!). When I went to Sweden for 2 weeks I HAD to check luggage. It was a pain in the butt to try to figure out what to do about that, where to check it, where to find it, oh - and actually FINDING it is tough, too! (All the suit cases coming down the carosel looked the EXACT SAME to me. Next time I should buy a pink suit case so it will stand out). When I went to Vegas just recently for about a week, we didn't check any luggage. I know that's not international OR two weeks, but I was suprised that I had about 5-6ifferent outfits and they all fit in my carry on bag with room to spare. Hurrah!
