Hi Jackie!
Maybe you should give that person first an ultimatum. Tell him you will report him to the police if he doesn't pay immediately. You can give him some time, like three days or a week or something. If he doesn't pay within that time, then tell him you will report him to the police.
It's really hard to deal with people like that. I have a friend who lent money to one of our co-workers. That co-worker went abroad and when she came back, she still hasn't paid my friend and we think that she has already forgotten the money she borrowed. My friend is clueless as to what to do.
I really hate people like that. They don't know how to do their obligations.

When I borrow money from someone, I tend to be un-peaceful. I cannot have a peace of mind until I pay that money. I wonder how people are able to manage forgetting their obligations as easy as that.
What did the police do?

Same here, Its like they never crossed in their mind that they borrowed money. Feels like they are taking advantage on me. As a person if you borrowed money, I think its your obligations to pay it. My patience is over, I already reported this matter to the police.

I'm so sorry that you are going through this. It's a painful lesson to find out that we entrusted someone that we probably really shouldn't have. If you go to the police, they might be able to talk to him but the laws vary depending upon where you are. Sadly you might have to face the fact that this is a very expensive life lesson. Never lend out money that you can't afford not to get back and if you really expect it back...get something in writing. I hope you get your money back, Jackie.

I have hAd the same thing happen to me. It has been about four years and the person has still yet to pay me back. And I am betting I will never see that money again, all I know was that it taught me not to lend money out again.

Wow I would be really mad if this happened to me. This is why I don't like the idea of borrowing or lending money to anyone, especially to my close friends. I think it just weakens the friendship and everything. When it comes to money, friends are the last people i want to go to. My friends are precious and I don't want something like money to break my friendship.
Since you said it was a big amount of money, I do hope you get it back soon. Good luck.
