Free Free Free!!!

It is a common tendency to people get attracted whenever they hear or see 'FREE'. These days most of the companies come up with such offer 25%, 50%, 85% off, absolutely free, buy 1 & get 2 free etc. I think many companies are looting the public on such ads and many are really become victims of the same. It is the habit of the people to just jump onto the place where we get something free or if there is an announcement 'FREE' or less price. I think many companies or the sellers makes a lot of profit and they make more business by chanting such kind of simple ads. Do you look around for such 'FREE' things and grab the FREE items by purchasing costlier things?

Hello thanks, We have been interacting after a long time and I hope you are doing well and the marriage went on good (in April). Regarding the topic, it is the marketing technique for promoting their sales. Sometimes they want to clear off the old goods and making such kind of offers. I think we should care about the product’s quality before grabbing the products with fewer prices. Usually if there is any festival is coming then offers also increases. Now it is a common trend to give some free items with each and every product. My habit is to avoid shopping at festival seasons and there are plenty of reasons, one reason is there will be much rush and I just hate to shop in the crowd. I need my own time to check the quality and suitable things for us. As a commerce graduate I know very well, the sellers never ready to meet any loss on their product so I know they are charging extra money with the free items but a common customer does not understand the techniques. They are happy with the free items. Happy ONAM in advance.

Hi Sree, Yes, it is a long time we had a talk each other. Hi Sid. Our population is so high and anyone do any business, can get a hand full of money by evening. In fact this is the trend here. Person do a small business with a 100 rupees also make 500 by evening doing all his tricks and cunning or cheating or any manner. For those people, for business there is no restriction, they are looking only on the profit. We can see these days a lot of online companies come up with such a hi-fi business techniques and 100% cheating. Just few mts. back one site intruded to my site and the offer is - Rs 3500 as the real price and the offer price is Rs 890. This same product is here available on the road side with just Rs 40/- and we can see how these companies are running with such a licence to run this business. Even govt. and govt. instruments are closing eyes towards such business and I am wondering how they get licenses to run such business. Most of the companies are coming up with this third class chines products which are of no use and comes with 10-15 times higher the rate with the market value. Shame and our customers are still getting fooled up by these marketers. All will working out only because of our variety of high population and mainly due to the lack of common sense. If we talk too much, we would lose our temper and become mad. Any way, thanks for the Onam wishes and Sid, please take care of your health. Sree, you got married in April? It is a news for me and I was not knowing about it. Hope you are settled now and my best wishes for a happy and peaceful life ahead. Regards, Thank-s

As the trade become globally in common, the trend of business and shopping also got changed a lot. Earlier we used to go to shops and get the things what we needed. Now, sitting at home also we can do shopping via internet form anywhere and anything. So we, as a consumer should be more careful while going for such deals. Offers and promotional business are part of the business and it will be there everywhere. However, whenever we do a shopping, may be it is a simple thing to a higher deals, we should look for many things like whether it is the real price, product is genuine, guaranteed or warranted, within the expiry date, etc. Also, all kind of deals have its own hidden issues. We need to check for everything so that the future problems can be avoided. Here is an incident, one person sold his property to 5-6 people and he had taken the bank loan for the same property from various banks. All these kind of deals are also some kind of business where the buyer is getting cheated or exploited. So, whenever there is better offer or reduced prices, we always think twice or thrice to make sure that it is a perfect deal. Thanks for your comments. Thank-s

But i don't think it would be pain full if we are much carefull we don't get cheated.,there are many sites which only offer good and quality items in much low prices they are much legit and have thousands of coustemers also with this like you said there is much chance to get cheated because there are scammer more than legits.the only way is to check it twice or thrice before involving any of them..!

Exactly, we need to be careful before going for a deal and our previous experience, trustworthy dealings, position of the company in the market etc. are to be taken care of. Branded companies who are dealing directly to the public also can be trusted. But an agent who make deals on items, especially those products which are not branded, imported from China, etc. are to be notified and tested. However, it is everyone's choice to fix a deal. Only thing, we need not get into a trap after making a payment with a half information. Thanks for your comments. Thank-s

thanks 1961 this reminds me of way back when I had been married a year and a few months, and had two babies in 11 months. My husband had the two in one grocery cart sort of babysitting on foot while I shopped for groceries. there was a large pyramid of canned green peas and a sign sale only four cans for a dollar! big sale. A lady turned and asked me" Aren't you going to stock up on them, only four for a dollar?" I smiled and said,"Ma'am the usual price per can of Green Giant peas is usually just twenty cents. this sale will cost you five more cents per can that's not a savings." She looked puzzled but still loaded her cart with cans of peas. So many so called sales actually cost you more than if you bought the item when it was not on sale.

Exactly! Everywhere we needs to be vigilant. We should not blued with their tactics of business talks. Many times we may fell in their attractive talks or demonstrations. We needs to be justified and we should have a common awareness about the product values also. Recently I noticed a similar incident. He was showing a particular product worth $100 and offering $25 worth of 3-4 other items as well. What they offer with $100 may be worth just $30 or 40 and after selling all the other things also he may be getting atleast 10-15% profit in the real terms. Possibly we, the customer needs to be careful while making any shopping and should be aware of the latest market trends by which they cannot fooled us so easily. Thanks for your comments. Thank-s

Funny!! But true to it. These days we should act so wisely to get escape from such business tricks. To get more business, the sellers will act so wisely and once they get paid, they never care about the customers. This is the world around no one care of others, but they are assuming that everything is taken care of. The new generation is so cunning and more decided. So to live here is also become practically more tiresome and we should be more cautious in all walks of our life. This is just an example and the life further may be still more complicated.

Its definitely a way to get people to buy more!! Especially things like buy 1 get 1 free. For the company selling the item, it is better than selling them at 50% off. It forces people to buy 2 even if they dont really need it!! That being said, sometimes you can still find some really good deals. Sometimes the seller will make very little profit on something, just to get it out of the door!! That way they get their money back and can put it into something else that will make them more money. THAT is when I jump on the items. I see no reason to pay full retail price for things that I can get much cheaper! Its learning to tell the difference between the good prices and the not so good prices that is the hard part!

It really depends on what you plan on doing with the item. If it only has a month until expiration? Not a problem if you pay attention and use it within that time period!! But if you are aware as a consumer, you can get the same exact items others pay full price for 75% off. They arent damaged. They dont have short expirations. But that does take some time - which people arent always willing to spend!

Yes, you are right. But items like medicines, shaving creams and few items like may have a expiry with 2 years or more. Even though such things are warranted for 2 years, I prefer to better not to buy these things at the edge period of time. Because certain item after packing can cause contamination or allergic with the container or the quality may get changed due to weather conditions etc. These all are on extreme case and few examples only but normally the company must have chequed for all types of quality checking also. But for our safety purposes, we need to be cautious, that is what I am trying to say. However, if we judge things are good within the period we can always go for it and make use of the benefits or rebates. Thank-s

There is a saying, 'there is nothing free' here. In certain context, it is true. If someone saying there is 'something free', it is sure that they selling is exploiting us in any manner. As long as we cannot get into a shot and get anything free, it is a catch up word, to 'feel', certain items are free. Eg., if you buy product worth $100, you can get $10 worth of an iron box. Here it is much sure that the product worth of $100 is not worth of it and can be worth only to $75 or 80. Even if you get a product worth @10 as free, they will make a marginal profit of $10-15. (This is just for an example only). So, whenever there is something free, it is sure that we are exploiting somewhere, somehow. Here we need to be take care and to be vigilant. Thanks for your comments. Thank-s

I tend to only buy products I use anyway or if there is an offer on a different brand I then work out if I am getting the item less per unti than if I stuck to my normal brand and if I don't, then I don't buy it! Plus I only think it is worth it on things you need and will always use say like toilet roll or washing up liqiud etc!

How I wish I could be offered for such free offers too! But seldom I can see free offers in my country. If there are free items out there, I think the price is just the same. They just added one item to another for it to be bought by customers. But you are right that companies are looting the public's interest because they want to sell more and gain more.

Hi Star, We are meeting after a long time, Hope you are fine and doing well. Now we are in the world of abundance and living in between a sea of wanted and unwanted products. We need to priorities and keep a fixed nature of shopping for the things which are only required and whatever we select should be of worth for paying also. As you said, for promotional purposes and brand expansions, many companies may come up with offers and business techniques. However, as a vigilant customer we need to be careful on each and every individual items that we are buying or purchasing. Thanks for your comments. Thank-s

YEs, u'r right. Most people are attracted by the word, "free". We are all visual animals and since young, 'free' has been taught to us and etched into out mind. WIth that, whenever we hear or see it, temptations will rush into our mind, telling us to check it out. Companies know that, they take advantage. However, things are never free or any cheaper because they tend to offset the cost by increasing their original items or other suffs.

Exactly! If we observe closely, we may be paying more than the actual price. Bout w months back there had been a exhibition & sale. I got into the place and was looking at the new products and prices. It was one particular offer that if we book the product over there at the same exhibition day, they offered 15% discount on the product and if we purchase the same branded thing after the sale, the full value has to be given. Some people booked and some didn't. But I noticed the difference recently that the same series of product with still 20% less in the shop here. I enequired the background at the sales man over there and he said we are selling the same product after adding their profit also. And if this is the case, we can imagine the actual MRP of the product, of course much less than of all these prices!! I mean to say, all companies, retailers, wholesalers and shop owners are in fact pinching the customers whenever they can. This is the one of the largest unorganised sector where all are exploiting the maximum. Thank-s

Who wouldn't grab such opportunity? It's a marketing strategy that companies resort to all the time because psychologically, people grab that idea the moment they see Free or Sale. I am not really into that kind of thing, I guess because i studied marketing before and my Uncle once told me, it's not actually free since you are still paying for it. And in fact there's no discount either because that's the actual price. So my Uncle always reminds me never to be fooled by such strategy.

Hi, Yes, your uncle is right. Now we have everything around and as and when we required, if we got money everything is a call away distance. As this is a fact, we should not be in a hurry to get things so urgently. If we found that we are getting the things worth to our money, well and good. But we should be conscious before paying as these marketing and business people are so cunning at times. Thanks for your views. Thank-s

Hi, Sorry for the delayed response. Yes, in fact we can go for the rebated shopping but only needs to be careful about the products worthiness. The main fact that we should noted that all such things for 'sale' may be of specific areasons like minor defects, season sales, stock clearances, seconds, nearing expiry dates etc. So, we should be little more cautious whenever we go for a 'sale'. I'm one of the person who purchase "w/ free" things. But I do not immediately grab. I compute. I checked the original price versus the product with today. Today, I bought a soap. It cost php 178.00 for two with free one soap. So there are three soap which I can use for two months or more. The original cost of soap is more or less php 83.00. So i saved 72 php. I always see this soap whenever I go on shopping. So I know that they are telling the right price. I'm a wise buyer. I think you should look for the original amount first. But it's true that sometimes they put discount just to deceive buyer.

Yes, we should not get cheated by their business techniques, that is all. Their main intention is not the customer satisfaction or well being of the society, but their profit and sell of their products. They will come up with modern techniques and we as a common man and ordinary crowd, we people should have a proper calculation and need to be updated with things around, the way how you did. Thank-s

I am actually guilty of getting attracted to seeing a Sale sign on a store. I guess the only difference between me and a regular shopper is that I have an invetory of prices running around in my head. Since the Mall is just a doorstep away from our house, what I usually do on my spare time is that I look for things that interests me and check their prices out. If there's a sale, I'd compare the prices and if the drop is considerable enough, I buy it.

Yes, we have a lot of choices and we should always be alerted with such things. Certain products and good may be comparatively cheap based on climate, timings etc. Products which are in common and abundant at seasons may be cheap or less costlier. In those times we can get a mass purchase if it long last or durable. It is the time we have everything around and our best choice and proper planned shopping can keep a healthy life style and can avoid unwanted things from our required lists. Thank-s

They first hike the price considerably and then offer these tantalizing schemes. There is no question of the shopkeepers reducing the price.Unless the goods are seconds or have a small defect.I too have fallen prey to these schemes given by manufacturers.

You are right. The sellers know how to take the maximum margin from their sale. There are so many methods they have adopted for the sale deals. Sometime initially, they will get the maximum marginal profit and later on once they crosses the target or exceeds the profit level, they can even sell the same material or goods even lesser prices. When it reaches to its expiry date, off seasons, festival seasons, higher competitions, etc. they will change the policy by attracting such methods. However, we a genuine and honest buyers or customer, we need to be alerted while making our choices. Sometime we may think that a lesser price may help but it may make loses in the long run. So, whenever we go for a discounted prices or less pay packages, we should convince that we are getting the right things with expected quality and best thing in the normal ways. Thanks for your comments. Thank-s

Hi thanks Ummm... quite true about many. But I never have fallen into this trap. I know for sure one thing - if they are giving out for free, it only means there is no taker (or buyer) for that product and somehow they have it... now they are desperate to get rid of that But my wife is so very attracted to these special offers and FREEBIES... she waits for days to find an offer for her... (and fall into the trap)

Hi Sidhu, It is not only your wife, many ladies have the same attitude. In fact they are trying to get some saving by choosing all these and many a times without their knowledge it become double expensive to them, which are really not noticed. Whenever we first we hear such a news, we think of the benefit side and that is the reason whey we normally get into it. To a certain extent we can avoid if we examine the things properly. As the business people in the market are so keen on such things, we also be more careful while getting into a deal. Most times there may be some kind of twist, that normally common people cannot understand. Which includes, festival season offers, off season offers, stock clearance, mass sale, exchange offers, 2 up on 1 etc are few major ones that we can see around. Few days back some product of a branded company come up with a 75% discount and when required the real fact come up - it was nearing expiry! And it happened to me as well, I brought a perfume with 50% off and once I reach at home I told my son that I got it half rate. He gone through the details and uttered, hei... look the expiry date is July 2011 and you bought it on August. Yes, I made a mistake that I didn't noticed that. So, whenever there is some kind of 'masala' around, it is sure that we need to be more careful on it. Any way, it is their business and our duty is to keep a close watch on the things whenever there is certain abnormality. Thanks for your comments. Thank-s

Because of the high cost of living this days and sad to say the salary is not increasing many fall prey to these scheme. I too have been a victim of this promo sales. Yes, I have bought it for a much lower price but only to find out that the quality of what I have bought is not worth the price I have pay. Now I won't be deceive again with this promo scheme.

Yes, in fact these companies and our system is openly cheating by all these means by loading heavily on the common public who are having no other alternatives or means other than accepting such deals. Whenever we go for a home loan or any such financial assistance from banks, they are really pinching the common man by charging heavy charges with their special kind of calculations of interest. I used to think why our governments are not at all bothered on such things. Even govt. itself is part of such corruptions, who cares and this the way they all fishing from these dirty waters. Basically, we as a common man being the customer and most exploited group in the society should always needs to be alert on matters like this. At many times, as you said, we have no other options, other than accept it. But a careful life pattern and thoughtful step ahead could solve such problems to an extent. Regards, Thank-s

We should be choosy, economical, and should analyse many things before going for a shopping. As you said, they have their own way of marketing and tactics, we also needs to act accordingly.
