Ramon J. Jimenez is the new DOT secretary (in case you don't know his name ).
His contributions to the advertising world is extremely superb, but can he really "sell" the Philippines? Hmm... in his speech, he's really confident that he can.
According to him, promoting the Philippines is like selling a Chickenjoy. That's cute. I like it though but after all the scandals, violence, etc., can he really convince the people from the foreign countries that Philippines is still a very safe and beautiful place?
What do you think?
It's still too early to become skeptical, but at least we just have to expect for the worst than to expect for something that's not within reach.

Thailand and Malaysia is one of the most visited countries in Asia but does it mean it doesn't have it's own problem such as ours? of course not. Culture wise, it's almost the same, even our looks are the same. So why is it that they have more visitors that us? The new DOT is right, the Philippines is just like a chicken joy, it's a best seller because everyone likes it. If you know someone who don't have a taste of it yet and tell him about how awful the taste is would there be by any chance he'll taste it? Of course not, that's because he'll now base his perception of the product based on what you told him. And he'll pass on his perception to his other friends and that will go on and on until someone who is brave enough decides to taste the chicken personally and find out what his other friends missed. My point is, a lot of tourist based their decision to go to a certain place mostly by perception. Have you ever wondered why the government always make it a big deal when ever embassy's post warnings in their websites not to visit the Philippines? while most of us will say to ourselves that it's nothing which is the truth but those tourists don't care about what we tell ourselves, but they do about those warnings do.

I'm just being optimistic elsmarie but this doesn't mean i'm blind either . I'm putting my trust on this guy simply because he's good at what he does in the private sector. He had spoken good words, he has good intentions but the task ahead in more daunting. Based on the post by LK on the new chief's interview on ANC, he asked every one to help him achieve his goals and the least I can do is give my support. We have to realize that there are budget constraints and a slow paced government bureaucracy which would serve more of a hindrance than a tool to speed things up, The guy may be new but the people whom he'll work with are not, they're still the same government employees who remained unnoticed and for all we know are just apathetic to the chief's new goals. So let's keep our fingers crossed.
