Don't I deserve the 'Best Response?"

Everybody should be given the chance to add a feather to their caps. If someone has been a loyal supporter of your discussions, has it never strike you to award that person a 'br' even though her/his response is not the best of the best. But because of his/her regular appearances in all your discussions, I think as a mark of appreciation he/she deserve at least one award from you. Though a BR doesn't carry anything more than a recognition for a well thought out views going against the norms by awarding the br to an undeserving response can probably turn the tide around by strengthening goodwill and truly inspire others to be more proactive. It is a real honor to be awarded a BR and I have received many of such awards in the past which are on display in my profile gallery. I went through all my responses that received the best response and feel a sense of pride for my little achievements here.

Although I do not start many discussions, I do take time to award the BR. I do not seek out to see who is a regular responder, but rather as to who gave a well thought out response and or something that really outshines. I have given it to a debatable response at times, because someone who can make me re-think about my opinion with good points certainly deserves it as well. I do receive several and yes after re-reading my response I do feel a sense of pride as well.

Well of course quality response always gets the first priority. I have just thought of those who frequent my discussions and maybe they should get the 2nd priority when deciding in awarding the br.

Hi binggaling! I can imagine that the more time goes by I will probably have loads of unresolved ones too. As many have told me that it is not compulsory to assign the BR as sometimes there could be more then one best response. So with time I too will have lots and probably not be able to determine. Good to see you, have not seen in a while.

Yes you are right I too would prefer to have it removed, because as you I enter discussions with no intent if I will receive it. I do as you also where I put my best foot forward on all discussions and hope that I can be helpful and or fun somehow.

Hi Zandi! I am in complete agreement with you that those who regularly appear in our posts and share their views, their contribution should be acknowledged by awarding them best response. I try to follow this principle. Also, if any of my friends/user comes out with chain comments on my post, I consider his/her response for the best response tag. I myself get limited number of BRs ...... Lol!

I see you are doing well in mylot and an active one too. Of course we don't expect to get a br when we respond to discussions. We are here to share our views while we earn. It is up to the starter of the discussions to decide who and when to award the br. This is only a suggestion how we can make use of the BR to show our gratitude to our regulars.

I guess it's time for me to think this through, since this marks the end of my first week on myLot, and I think I did start some discussions on the first day. But some are still getting responses, and I don't want to make these awards too soon, so that others might feel stifled and not comment any more. I probably will consider quality of the response first, but if more than one response is of very good quality, as they often are, I might take the friend's loyalty and frequent participation into consideration when choosing between them.

Hi bagarad, that is the right thing to do, there is no rush in awarding the BR. Wait for more responses to come before deciding who is the rightful recipient. I have got pages of discussions waiting to be resolved.

try to be fair to all of my friends but if someone actually gives me a best response, then that is who gets the reward for it. If some of them are close responses, I will then choose at random to make it even.

Hello Zandi, A thought about BR was in my mind from yesterday but it was on the quality. I have gone through some discussions, where br has not given the proper person and I felt disturbed on that. In the same time I know the starter is the only person to decide who deserves it. Considering this particular I don’t have any right to complaint. Usually I am giving to the BR only to the deserving person and for that I may take some more time to select the BR. If there are more competitors and I become confused then I may consider your thought, if there is somebody who is more regular in my discussion I may select that person as the deserving person. However, this will be on the second priority and first priority goes to the BEST only.

Of course priority should go to the cream and only when we are caught with multiple quality responses that give us a hard time to decide then we have to take the second choice of selection.

If I have a lot of similar responses I tend to give my best response award to the newbies. I feel that this encourages them to continue. But if I get a truly great response I award that one.

We all need to be flexible at times. Yes, newbies really need encouragement to prolong their stay here and a BR might just do the trick.

"has it never strike you to award that person a 'br' even though her/his response is not the best of the best"? No, because then it wouldn't be the best response. It would defeat the point of marking a best response if you used it to mark "response from person I like".

No not the person I like (no favoritism) and neither should it be a habitual action to divert from the original purposes of the BR.

Zandi, indeed it is great to see that our response being awarded the "BR". But, sometimes it is not easy to award the "BR" especially when there are so many responses that gives lots of useful tips. I got stuck in this kind of situation and often delay giving out the "BR" to my discussions. Maybe you can share here on how to solve this kind of situation, hopefully by reading your suggestion, i can start solving my discussions soon...

One thing that urged me to award the br is when I see logic and humor in the response.

So, from your view, you are giving the "BR" based on those two qualities. I hope by using your these two methods, i am able to solve many of my discussions soon...Have a nice day, Zandi....

I do like getting a best response now and then but I wish it meant something more. I mean, it would be nice if it helped out one's star rating or something but it doesn't really do anything for you here on MyLot. To be honest, I would rather have people give me positive ratings rather than get a best response. At least that is something that would be a measurable benefit.

I am with you on this. I've got more than a thousand br but it really doesn't help me in my star ranking. I think people doesn't rate me as much as I wish they do.

I too think people don't rate as much as they should. At least you have a good high rating. I have been at my present rating for the whole time I have been on MyLot and it never seems to move even though I try to leave good, positive comments on the discussions I respond to. Unfortunately for you, since you have so many posts, it will take many, many positive ratings to get your rating to move. I guess all we can do is keep trying and hope people use the rating system in a positive way. I wish you luck and hope you make it to 10 soon!

I think that giving out best responses should be highly encouraged. It is like a nice motivation for the myLot users to keep bringing out their ideas, thoughts and views for other myLotters. However, I think that just because a user is an avid responder of a certain topic starter his/her responses should be given the credit of a best response even though his response in not the best after all. The essence of putting the "best" in best response title denotes a well though out view and response and should not be influenced with the user who gave it out. After all, it is called the best response and not the best user who responded, right? Anyway, best responses is a great way to show appreciation for others who really gave an effort to put up a nice reply. It should be given out freely to those deserving responses.

We should be neutral in giving out our BR. Some people deserved to get our recognition and it is one criteria that we have overlooked.

You're definitely right, i felt this as always. i personally admire mylotters who constantly respond on my discussions. I always give honor to them. Not just because they are always responsive but the thought counts for me. I am just happy too when i receive best response. It keeps me going here in mylot.

I do not look for best responses because here I am too busy writing and trying to help someone out, giving my opinion, or giving them information that they want to know about. I have seen discussions where the person gives a br because they agree with him or her, that they are too impatient to wait for a few days or a week so others may give their imput. Not everyone is given a best response and sometimes the starter of the post finds that he or she has to choose between one or two and it may have been that had happened to you. I have found it difficult to give one because I had to choose between two or three people and often wished there was a 2nd best response or a 3rd best response like there are in contest.

I do not like the idea of the first one getting the br seconds after the starter posted the discussion. I would see as week is enough time if there were not that many and if you were lucky and most everyone on my lot posted, maybe a few days. But there should be at least a few. It really is not fair and makes people believe that you knew the first respondent personally and asked them to agree with you since they did it in real life. I would like to have as many responses as possible although it does take a while for me to decide who gets the br.

People are confused and ended up awarding the br to those who favor them though it might not be of much help to the discussion concerned. I've also received instant BR from people here within split seconds of posting my response. And this shouldn't happen as all discussions should be given a certain time frame to be exposed and get as many responses as possible for variety views.

exactly the same thinking i have, that there are times you really wish you have to resolve a long existing unresolved discussion for quite some times, you give BR to the most loyal supporter. i do not do this a lot of times only in the case that i have to do it.

Definitely receiving BRs speaks loud of our efforts. We can only make our journey here successful and fulfilling when we still have friends and others reading our posts. I am glad that the responses and comments I got encouraged me to strive harder towards better write-ups. Your encouraging comments keep my spirit going in mylot.

I completely agree with you. And on my discussions there are a handful of people which I could always count on, not to make my post without any responses. Being in there always, I sort of get how they think, and I sort of appreciate their way of life. And by that they automatically get in the mix of my nominees for a BR. And then I just distribute among them who deserves the next one.

That is exactly what I'm trying to say here. We will never feel disappointed when no one else responded to our discussions but these few regulars always find something good to say to keep our discussions afloat. They deserved to be awarded.

Look, I understand there are loyal responders to discussions here in MyLot, but I am a believer that the best response, and I mean the best, deserves to get the best response. Now another thing is, waiting a good amount of time before giving a best response. Because if we jump to fast for giving one, then as the discussion grows with more responses, then there might very well be another response that was better the the one we gave it to. And at that point, we can no longer change it. I go over my old posts and see if there are anymore responses, when I see it basically stopped getting responses, then I go back and read them and then give the best response. I get best responses from some friends and from other people that I am not even friends with. It is totally up to the poster who gets a best response.

I agree with you that BR should be awarded to the cream of all the responses we got as it is what the BR is supposed to mean. We the OP can decide to bent the rules of the game and divert it's purpose for something that might also benefit us in the long run.

I know we can bend the rules, but that would defeat the purpose of the best response. I do believe that everyone deserves a best response at some point, because I believe that everyone has written a best response. So, it all comes down to a matter of time.

For weeks I was giving best responsesin each of my discussions, but at the same time was asking me why I never receive a BR? then I tryed to write responses with more qualities, and kept doing that, and thanks God I got my first Br response 2 days ago.
