Many people today are eating healthy foods added with good supplements life automatically exceeds the normal human life expectancy. And it is not surprising to see our streets full of centenarians in future. When the employment world has a compulsory retirement age, what do you think of those who are still strong but are forced into retirement by the labor laws? Where do you think the older generations fit in to the present day employment scarcity? The future is bleak for older people when they have no jobs but need foods to survive? Lucky for those whose children are caring and can take good care of their aged parents. And for those in the first world countries they have no problems as their governments are obligated to take care of their welfare until nature take its course. For many of us in the third world countries, we may have to toil till our last breath. But again, it is good to have something to do before death invite us to our eternal rest.

I would have loved to work longer but my health got too bad to work. I think if u are able to work & want to u should be allowed to. As for our goverment taking care of us the check we draw every mom\nth is money 'WE PAID IN WHEN WE WERE WORKING". tHE GOVERMENT DOESN'T GIVE ME A DARN THING.nOW IF I WAS SORRY & GOOD FOR NOTHING like so many are i could try to draw all the free stuff so many draw that don't deserve it. They are just too lazy to work& think they are owed something for being that way.

That is what I was made to believe, people in advance countries who don't have jobs have no worries as as their government is taking good care of their welfare. Huhu...so I must be hearing untrue stories of people in the west having good life.

I will say in the morden world everyone's into fast food & very few people stay upto the age of 80 yrs. you have a point, I'll reply by saying every one is educated enough to save for the future, many old age people still receive pention from their co.'s. Retirement age should br upto 60 yrs only.

yes, the fast foods are killing people at younger ages. but some are so healthy conscious, they eat only home prepared foods for as long as it can be made possible. i tend to agree with you though that even if people will take extra care of their health, 80 will always remain to be a critical age for most of us. it is by good luck that some people will live beyond 90. what with the pollution and the contamination that is all around us which no one will in anyway at all, be able to escape from.

I just hope we even reach the age of ninety. I disagree with what you mentioned that people today are eating healthy foods. I can see most people are not. Most of us love to eat at fast food chains especially those who are busy with their works and also those living alone and think cooking for themselves would take a lot of time and eating out would be more convenient. Also a lot of us mostly eat fried foods. In regards with the employment, I think people should be allowed to work even if they are older than sixty as long as their healthy enough for the job. Sixty is a good age to retire from work and just travel the world but unfortunately it couldn't be the case for most of us.

That is the very reason people die prematurely, all because of stuffing themselves with unhealthy foods. The body need nourishment and shouldn't feed it with all the junks that have zero nutrients.

If I'll still be strong and still live on my 90's,I don't really want to spend my remaining years working.I even preferred to retire at an earlier age to still spend my days doing what I love to do.Now I'm really planning to invest in my future, work and invest, so I don't have to force myself to work when I'll be too old.

I retired prematurely and wish I can live to the end without exhausting every penny that I have carefully saved for rainy days.

Things are not much better in the US than in Germany. The Republicans have been trying to let people know for years that Social Security and Medicare are going broke and we need to find a better way to deal with it than making like an ostrich and pretending it isn't so. The Democrats say the Republicans sounding the alarm are trying to push Granny down the hill in her wheelchair and that there's plenty of money left to fund Social Securtiy. Since Congress and the President don't have to live on Social Security themselves, they just aren't all that concerned about it. I think they'd find a way to fix it if it was their own retirement plan and if they had to depend on Medicare for their health care in old age. There ought to be a law that the people who make the laws have to live under them themselves. Since we have no children, we will be up a creek in our old age. I'm already 68, so I'm hoping I don't outlive my support options. I dont' mind working as long as I'm able, but I think the state of our economy is destroying the investments, including readl estate, that most retirees planned to live on in their old age. It's not right.

Politicians only know how to talk and render lip services. I am sure they don't even know the depth of our problems. I am semi old and wouldn't know what would be of me when I am too old to fend for myself. Though I have professional children but I can't count on them to provide me everything. But I am a little bit lucky as I have a house over my head free from encumbrances and the only worry for me is medical care as most illnesses like to lick on aging bodies.

Eating healthy foods are very good for our health but no one in this world know what is the age of a man. So in my opinion, we all are not able toretire in the age of ninety because only the healthy foods is not enough for this. I am agree with your opinion but it cannot be done.

you make it sound scary that people are strong even at 90 these days. and it sounds like it is even hoped for that folks will still even be living longer days beyond a hundred years old. it is true that in the third world countries, it is not desirable to grow that old. most of us do not envision living in this world beyond 65 years old. at that age, most of us will still be strong enough to move and take care of ourselves. so it is still a good age to live by. but most of us get weak by 75, so mostly do not look forward to be living through life until such an age. in other words, we are taking healthy foods in order to be able to cope with life until 70 rather than of being alive until we reach a hundred years old or beyond. if indeed there are big chances of being around beyond ageing a hundred years old, then we might as well prepare ourselves to deal about living until then. so life insurance anyone? life insurance which will mature when one ages 90 and it must give us a good amount of money yields.

None can hope to be as creative and efficient as one was able to exist in his/her heydays. A nonagenarian could find little scope for exercising jobs in an efficient and orderly manner.

zandi458, I believe every place or country will have their way of dealing with old age but I do not think any country even the third world ones, would ever extend it to 90. For one, they will be too old to move around and/or enjoy their retirement. While your concerns may be legitimate, I believe countries around the world have already done quite a lot for their elderly population. As for the third world countries, there are already plans underway for the working class and current aged and retired. For one, the working class are being made to purchase low cost insurance and their companies supporting medical and welfare insurance which will take care of them after they have retired. Also, companies around the world have been encouraged to employ retirees who would prefer to work during their retirements with the government coming to their aid in giving companies tax relief and subsidies to facilitate the plans for the aged but fit population. In third world countries, they are given land and property tax relief when they opt to farm on government land. On this subject, I believe it is in everyone of us not only to plan for our families but our retirement as well. Whether we have children or not, we will still need to be financially and physically independent and not be a burden around and to our children.

Lucky are those who live in countries that have incentives for hiring pensioners. I have seen old people as cashiers in supermarkets in Australia. They were quite slow when punching each item in the cash register machine but the customers seemed to understand and waited patiently for their turn.

This could cause even more problems then we have now. When I was working and paying into my social security few people lived into their 70s and now 70 is becoming mid life. It's hard not to do the math, I paid enough for myself to live into my 60s and now that I am well past that someone else is having to pay for my extened life. When social security was figured I think they forgot to figure in the extended life many of us have now. I certianly wouldn't like to take a job from some young person just starting out, If I want to work I can always volunteer.

I think we should retire at the proper age...like 65 or even sooner...I retired at age 63...I could have worked longer but my type of job [ as a cook]was very demanding and I had some health issues which I could not perform my job to a hundred per cent like I used to do...but any way that's beside the point...I just think if we work until we are too old let's say 70...then what happens to the young generation?...we as oldies need to have a rest [after working all those years]and the young's need a job to build their future...there should be an age for every thing! a time to play, a time to work and bring up a family, and a time to retire and let the young take the reins after all they are the future! and every country needs them...so I think every government should pay a pension to the elder as we have earned every cent and more!

Now a days generations is fully artificial. NO natural, that is a big sin, they are not knowing that. they come to know later. But the old generations are really lucky, they have got the fresh air.

Personally I do not think that people of my generation will reach the age of ninety, not with all the chemicals companies add in everything we eat nowadays. I personally would like to reach the age of 100 years and more, but I want to be healthy and not a burden. I have always believed that where there is a will there is a way, so yes to being able to retire rich and young.

In reality, only a handful of us will ever see, much less blow out, 100 candles on our birthday cake. But again living up to 100 and beyond is not only achievable but will one day be commonplace.

i dont think so.retire at the age of ninety is impossible.retire should be at the age of 50,because this time itself they will start to lose their memory power etc.we should give chance to well educated and health people

There should be no compulsory age of retirement. If you are strong enough and mentally fit to work after the age of 65, you should. On the other hand, if you are not fit enough to work after 65 or have to retire early because of health then you should be able to without penalty. I do find that there are not enough young people to support the older because some scientific idiots said that we and our parents should only have one or two children. And now with the old people having a hard time and having lower pensions because there are not enough young people to help those who were unable to put enough for retirement, these scientific idiots are saying, "oops.!"

Hi Zandi, it is a pity that if each older people still needs to work until their last breath. I hope the future won't be that bad for older people in our country. Hope the government in our country will provide some sort of allowance for the senior citizen soon. In the meantime, it is a must for younger generation to have a preparation for their own senior's time by buying retirement products while they are still working. At least when they are in their senior age and don't have the chance to work anymore, still have a handsome income to maintain their life. I think it is wise to take charge and prepare as much saving as possible, for our future needs.

Welfare doesn't take care of us just because we are old. I worked and paid into social security... that is not enough to live on. I draw about 1/3 of what it takes to live on if I lived by myself. I am a roommate with my daughter and her husband. I could not live on my own and have Internet, phone and food on the table. I'm thankful that I do get social security, but I have to work to have any money for anything else. I work from home to make a few hundred dollars a month to help out.

wow you have different views about life because most of the people i know get tired so easily they want to retire at earlier age but you see even if you want to work till 90 years our body doesnt accompany our will to work so
